View Full Version : Insurance and Revo
Ok thinking of getting my car revo'ed and would prefer to advise the insurance company just incase. I know the likely hood of them finding the car has had the ECU modified is unlikely but for a extra couple of pounds think its better to be safe than sorry.
So the questions are: -
1. If I’m going to get it revo'ed what do you tell the insurance increase is 205bhp?? by the percentage or what?
2. How much is it likely to go up by?
3. Who is the best insurance company to go though in your opinions?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks Ian

OK, just been ringing around and a bit of net stuff for exactly the same LCR with revo...
After many calls.... Greenlight, who offer a discount for SCN members, had given me the best quote by along way.
Called up to confirm who the insurer was... its Highway :(
After the fiasco with that guys RX8 Claim, said I wasn't interested in Highway.
Greenlight said they had another insurer with a similar price, came back to me a few minutes later to confirm other insurer (llyods based) would match highways price :D
Definately give em try.
My previous best quote was 872, Greenlight have just offered me 657 :funk:

Greenlight are great for modded cars.
My friend is with them on his CTR and doesnt pay a penny extra for the mods he has.

Adrian Flux I have found to be the best.

I dont know if any of this helps you but i thought i would try and answer your questions accordingly
1. If you go with Greenlight you dont need to give a % increase as they understand 'Mod talk' so all you need to do is tell them is you have a remap and what bhp you think/know the car has
2. I think prices depend on your age, claims, NCB etc
3. As said already Greenlight are fantastic and you get a discount with them because your a member on here

I asked greenlight the other day about the cost of adding a remap on my insurance. £45.
This is for an LCR.

You going to get it mapped then buddy:)
Well worth it:)
I have been with Greenlight for nearly a year now and they have been superb! They were by far the cheapest for my modified Celica and offered a very good price to change to the LCR for the rest of my policy.
When I spoke to them a while back about getting a LCR they asked if it was chipped... they said they would cover a chipped LCR for only £30 more :D
I know the RX8 fiasco will scare a lot of people, but I'm working on the theory that if I'm up front and honest about everything I'll have nothing to worry about. Fingers crossed.....

Just ask them (greenlight) not to use highway as the insurer.
They quoted me twice today once using highway and once with someone else.. same price.

I'll be going with Bell Insurance, Engine Mod Declared but they will only insure upto 25% increase which equates to:
Ibiza FR standard bhp : 130 actual bhp : 140-145 increase by 25% = 175-181 bhp
my quote was just over 800 quid, 250 excess (0 no claims, 3rd party claim + 3 penalty points, 22 yrs old)
