What sort of damage? Ive got one that I bought in December from Maplin. Cost £80 reduced from £160. Is that regarded as cheap for an invertor? It does 800w max. Not connected it yet, but its in the car, just need to connect the earth to the chassis and Im away. Can anyone advise me before i do something wrong!

Inverters are ok, but some do not produce a sine-wave output, rather, a bad square/wave output that can damage equipment. For example, the cheap inverters available from maplins (currently at around 20-30quid) will blow up a computer motherboard if installed into a car and run from 12v, because the output signal is not smooth enough and can have "spikes" in which damage connected equipment.

Mostly however, inverters can do the job. Check before hand, and u might be ok. Seeing as u got an 800w version, its probably a lot better than the ones i looked at.

More information can be found "googl-ing" for inverters and ps2's or in car computers!
