Has anyone who has had their cupra engine chipped or modified such as the RSD conversion had much of a problem with torque steer? Just wondering if it is much of a problem.

Any info appreciated.

Cheers, Paul.

No problems at all....the ESP more than takes care of it! I used to get handfulls of torque steer in my old 120bhp GTI, nothing at all with this 210bhp monster! Although, it can be hard to lay down power in first, second or third in the wet!! :-)

Not so good if you haven't got ESP:(

Cheers for the feedback Rich. I don't want to sound stupid but what is the ESP? Is it something you had fitted to your car during upgrade bacause I haven't heard of it before ? I don't think I've got it. I picked up my cupra last month and it is a 2002 model with the new exhaust. I know it has got EDS.

I am going to get my cupra chipped, most probably after the first service when the engine will be fully loosened up.( I've just done 3k miles and it just feels like it is starting ot loosen up top end. A big difference! Now I know what people using this site meant when they talked about their engine loosening up!!)

I know that increased power in front wheel drive cars can cause problems with torque steer( when upgraded) so I'm a bit bothered and want to koow what the best power upgrade would be. I've thought about going for superchips also the local dealer is in Warrington.

I bet your motor flies!

What kind of 0-60 time do you reckon you are getting?

Paul.

ESP - is an electonic stability control. From what I understand it is a combination of electronic LSD (limited slip differential) and independant wheel braking. Basicaly if you start to spin up one wheel it'll brake on it to direct the torque to the other side (as a normal LSD). The independant braking allows braking of an inside wheel when entering a spin - in an attempt to straighten the car out again.

I believe the 2002 modle Leons still have TCS (traction control). I think this should eliminate torque steer by braking either driven wheel if it spins (similar to a LSD).
