View Full Version : Car security
Hi guys,
I need your advice, I get my Ibiza Cupra on Thursday and the last thing I want is some tosser nicking my new car. I know that it has a CAT 2 insurance approved immobiliser, but I want to upgrade it to a CAT 1 system. I have my eye on the Clifford Concept 600, but I haven’t got a clue how much it is or a suitable place to get it from including installation.
Can anyone shed some light on the topic, or give me some other suitable systems that will fit my lovely new car?
Cheers guys
John

i think all clifford fitters HAVE to from a reputable company also toads are too.pick up a good car mag and have a butchers in the back .they usually say that the fitters are of this standard its like the guild of security devices or something along those lines not quite sure what the groups called but clifford won't let just anyone fit there stuff.btw i have a nice toad c5t2 which is toads top dog at the mo 300 notes fitted.it's wicked CAT 1

Clifford Installers have to go on a Clifford training course and pass before they can even buy them. They usually only except people who have been an installer for a while.
I can vouch for the Concept 600 though. It's a mighty fine alarm. The dogs danglies, muts nuts etc etc..:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Had one fitted to my Cordy for a year now and the only problem I've had was the tilt/motion sensor blowing up because it got wet... Not the alarms fault......
One word of warning though.... It's £700 installed, unless you find a cheaper place. I had SQ+ install mine and they did a top notch job. But I fell pry to the cool factor of the Remote start. After the demo I had to have it, and that's another £225 or so. But it's well worth it for confusing the buggery out of people.....

remote start..?? WTF..
Surely you don't mean you start your car engine while not actually sitting in the car..?? how does the immobiliser switch off..?? cos I thought you had to have the key in the ignition to send the key code to allow the car to start.. ??
Let me know.. I am intrigued... starting the car while not in it does sound entertaining, although I am sure that having it in Hull would be bad news as some of the scrots round would jump in your car and nick it before you could get in yourself.... lol
Do tell tho.. interested now..

Oh it's much cleverer (!) than that.....
The original immobiliser has to be bypassed, but the 600 has three circuit cut anyway and every scumbag can get past the internal one...
When you press the button on the remote it disables a couple of sensors but the alarm is still active, the doors still loked, and you still have the key. The car is still perfectly safe, any attempt to break in will re-immobilise the car and sound the alarm as usual. Then when you get to the car you press the unlock button on the remote as usual put the key in and drive away. If you don't put the key in then again the alarm imobilises the car and goes off....
Oh and since the 600 has blackjax ( anti highjack ) you can still give the theives the keys and they wont get far. I did say it was the dogs didn't I ?......:D :D :D
If you're at the track day I can show you, it's the coolest thing I've ever seen....

Yeah - and then you want to press the button at every opputunity like Pete ;)

That truely does sound like the Dogz Danglies mate..
I still can't get over the fact you can start your engine while not being in the car.. It's like something out of a Bond film.. like that Beemer in Tomorrow Never Dies..
Very cool.. Well if I win the lotto I will get one fitted, or if my insurance sky rockets next year as all insurance is supossed to then I might invest in the system.
would be very cool to start-up your car and scare the sh*t out of people standing near by wondering who the hell is hiding under the dash board... lmao.
Thanks for the explanation Pete.
Not sure if this is any help, but a had a cat2+1 alarm upgrade fitted to my Leon. The benefits of this (amoung other) being it still uses the original remote. It cost me £225 but this was done at a professional garage - you might be able to get it cheaper.
Which ever one you get, make sure you get a certificate to show the insurance company as you might not get money off otherwise.
Hope you get a better discount than my £30.

What make of alarm did you have fitted? I've been looking at the Sigma but would prefer a solution that continues to use the original key fob.

If you could dig out the details I'd be really grateful.
Providing Euro Continental get their act together I will be getting my new Cupra 3rd or 5th of November and an alarm upgrade is the first thing on my shopping list to make sure I keep it.
......yeah me too, if you could dig out the details of the alarm, I would be very grateful.
Cheers
John
Dean Bufton also upgraded his Leon from Cat2 to Cat1.
From memory I think it's a Cobra system.....try sending him a private message (good new service that!) for details ('cos like me he probably doesn't po into the Ibiza forum much....)
Hi,
Sorry, I had to do some serious finding to get the info. It is a TOAD A850T2
Hope this helps.
Cheers for the info, I know Toad are a little cheaper the Clifford, that might end up being the Alram I get.

You need to enter a code into the valet switch every time a door is opened/closed. That way if you get hijacked you get out let them have the car and 20 seconds later it goes into recovery mode. It imobillises, lights/indicators/brakelights flash, siren sounds.... All hell breaks loose...

Also the other good thing is that the 600 has a tilt motion sensor. I had to replace mine at the weekend, due to water damage!!!!!, but it's all in now. rocking the car doesn't set it off, so that truck driving past wont make it go off. But jack the car up to the point where removing the wheels becomes possible and..................................................

I have a Clifford Concept 600 fitted to my Golf and it cost £800 fitted but it is well worth the money and also the fact that it lowers your insurance by at least 10%...I got 15% off for having it fitted.....!
Costs a lot but I guess that it depends on how much you value your car!
