Hey,

Been reading your forum for the last couple of days so I thought I might post a question to see if any of you experts could help in any way.

I've had my Leon for over a year now and am very happy with it apart from one aspect - the remote central locking.

The range, in my opinion, appears to be appailing. What sort of range does everyone get??

Most of the time I have to really up close (touching the glass) to get the f#?cking thing to work  fustrating to say the least.

It's even worse from the area around the boot - not very ideal if you have a lot of bags etc.

I've change the batteries myself... been to two diffirent dealers - one refused to acknowledge a fault ("it looks fine through the diagnostics"). The other, seemed more helpful. They first gave me a new key and said it was better - but this later proved it wasn't. After a second visit they tried another new key fob - this was better although I still think it's not right.

I know there is something wrong somewhere. Can anybody help. If somebody could tell me where the receiver is and where this connects too (the central locking module perhaps?) I'll have a go myself.

Any help would be v.much appreciated. Anyway luv this forum,:D

Its probably not much help to you but my unlocker doesnt seem to work properly from the back of the car either, If i hold it above the rear wiper against the glass it does but anywhere else around the back of the car and it doesnt work at all,

I can get it to work from the sides and front from a maximum of about 2 metres so if you do find a fix for this please let me know too!

I must agree the range is short, it does show you in the manual what angles its best to use it from.

Mine though is not as short a range as yours, I can prolly open the car from 20 ft

if its like the older cordobas and ibizas the reciever is locateed at the rear view mirror, they used to be crap at opening the locks, i bought a toad alarm/immobiliser with the central locking feature, 101cl model worked from a hundred yards or more afterwards!!!! worth thinking about, also beeps or silent mode so you know that it definately locks!!

I have 2 thin batteries in mine (CR2016) separated by a thin metal plate, they are 3 volt batteries and 1 measures 3.03V and the other measures 2.97v

Thanks. You lot have been more helpful in five minutes than ALL my dealings with SEAT dealerships in 1 year!

Glad to know I'm not the only one. I wonder why some Leon's differ from other's. A mate at work also has a Leon but his range is wicked, "the trick is.." as he put it, "to get to the car before it locks itself again!!"

I will try the 2 battery trick and let ya know. Hey.... it's worth a try.

Taking the batteries out and putting them back in again has improved the range quite a bit!!, It works from anywhere around the back of the car now and the range is up to about 4 metres,

But when i went down to the car this morning it wouldnt unlock the car at all, but when i came back (dropped wife at station) it worked perfectly,

I will get some new batteries for the remote if i can find a shop that sells them and let you know what difference it makes

Hey,

Mine was ok when I picked the car up but a month later the range decreased. Put a new (single) battery in and it has been fine ever since (2 months now).

Personally I don't want a range of yards and yards - makes it all the easier for someone to steal the codes being used...

Apparently the codes cant be 'grabbed' because the leon uses rolling edge codes that change each time the car is locked or unlocked

This maybe a shot in the dark, but i remember reading a note in the manual stating that if the fob is used outside the recommended range (can't remember what it was) it will dererirate and will have to be re-programmed.

This involved putting the master key in the ignition and the rcl key in the door then pressing combinations on the buttons (this is of the top of my head so it may not be accurate!!)

This is supposed to rectify the fault.

As for my rcl - it works fine from all angles around the car and i have never changed the battery since i got the car (6mths!!)

Hope this info helps

Hey,

Even though they are rolling codes and encrypted etc I don't trust them 100%. Anything manmade can be hacked/cracked or broken into....the lower the chances of it happening the better and limiting het range of the fob, in my eyes, is a good thing. No need to unlock it until you are practically at the door handle anyway.

As for the key needed re-initialising - if you press it too many times out of range then it jumps too far ahead in the code rolling and can no longer be recognised by the alarm.

for those of ypu who have popped their keys open (wotever reason ) you may have noticed sat in the Y section a small glasstube or black chip

i reccomend this is super glued in , because if you drop your keys and they pop apart and that little TUBE/CHIP goes WALKIES then you are too

that chip/tube is the passive immobiliser activation capsule (or wotever they call it )

lose THAT and lose the ability to start ya car :(:(:( (believe you me it does happen )
