after trying to find some info out and with lots of different things about i decide to try and help people out by compiling all the stuf i used and found out to swap to a flip key
1 you will need a vw skoda or seat flip key with two buttons of ebay or anywhere with the mhz rating as your key. most prob 434mhz like mine and some are 433mhz and harder to get hold of.
2 try and get one with a blank blade
3 get that cut to your car at security place or somwhere that casn cut these keys
4 to change the imobillisor chip you need to seperate the flip key top and botton
5 then remove the badge( took me ages to figure out why i couldnt slipt the top bit!) you will then see a small screw undo this then the key will open up to reveal a little cylindrical chip.
6 you then need to open up your spare key the one with no remote this is easy did it with my nails and in that you will see a bit of white rubber and under this in the chip place this in your flip key and put flip key one in hear for now! to keep it safe
7 then reassemble the key and get seat badge from dealer
8 to code the remote you need the old original key in the ignition with it turned on then lock the door with the new key remove key then press unlock and horn will blip wait 6 second and press unlock again the key is now coded to your car!

cost about 30 quid including new badge and plenty on ebay
the key part no. i got and that i know works is HLO 1JO 959 753 AG
this is of a bora and mine was only 6 months old so the news batch of keys do still work!

hope this gives you the info you need
cheers gaz

for the people with 433mhz keys thats for you! wil post up more if i find them!
last to will ned new blades but they are about 4 quid for two on ebay! and held in with a pin!

Cheers for that - my searching method was pants! Watching 6 on ebay now so hopefully get one soon.

Where have you guys been geting the blades cut - Timsons? or does it need to be a specialist? How much to get the blade cut? On or off of the key fob? So many questions!

gazjones

think timsons do it i got mine done at local security place and it is done on the key so no need to remove the blade cost me 5 quid for cutting

For what is worth the 2 button flip key for MK4 Ibiza (as well as Mk1 leon) is
1J0 959 753 CT
corresponding key (which will be cut if ordered through a dealer) is 6L0 837 246 B INB

Now then about the frequency . . . THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN 433 AND 434 MHZ. The correct frequency for all VWG cars in the UK is 433.92MHz. Some people round it down to 433, others up to 434 but they are the same.

So why does the key for my car have printed on the side of it 433MHZ and some others have 434MHZ. Surely the keys are all manufactured by the same people so if they were all the same frequency then they would all same the same thing on the side? Also, looking on ebay (not the experts, I know), there are 3 different part no.s for VW flipkeys, 1 for 433, 1 for 433.92 and 1 for 434.

My car's key is a Hella one and has this on the side:

730 955-00
433MHZ 5FA 007 680.

Bearing in mind that the 433MHZ keys on ebay are going for more money than the 434 and 433.92, are you saying it doesnt matter which one I get, I will be able to set it to my car?

This isn't a rant by the way, I'm just very confused.

SpareMan

As I said they are all the same, it is just semantics. Call any Audi, VW, Skoda or SEAT dealer and ask for the EXACT frequency on their version of ETKA and they will all be 433.92MHz.

The parts are different prices because they are probably different parts. In addition to the flip key part number I gave you there are three other flip keys for various SEATs of various ages, one is 3 button, the other two are 2 button. They are not all the same price.

So yes all those remotes will work on your car as long as you can get a blade cut that fits them

Have a look at post 9 on this thread, the guy got a 433MHZ remote for his golf and it didn't work cos his is a 434MHZ. I've just bought a 434MHZ key from ebay - I really hope this works!

Expecting my 434 any day mate, I'll let u know how it goes.

Thanks, I await with interest to see if it all works!

Out of interest where have people got their new key blades cut? Do the likes of Timpsons do them or is somewhere more specialised required?

Nath.
10-11-2006, 22:28
just had a look at a vw flip key

it is well easy to take apart and fit the chip thingy from the spare key, also the spare key comes apart with finger nails

however if the ebay key comes with a chip in it you will need to brake the chip in order to remove it as it is glued in

if it comes without a chip, so much the better

fingers crossed :)

gazjones

my old chip wasnt glued in my flip key if you shake it you can hear a little rattle thats the chip and i belive timpsons wil be able to do it know afew people that have had it done there

is this the same then for leons?, sorry bit confused......i know my keys a 433mhz one..... could i therefore do the same and buy a 433 one off ebay and transfer my spare key chip (with no remote) into the new flip key and it will work the same as remote... ie lock, alarm, imobiliser etc

Thanks

I'm so jealous! Still not recieved my key - good to know Timsons cut the blades though. What do you guys think about the whole "their all the same frequency" debate? At least either way I can amswer the question for those asking - and then try and source myself a 433 key!

BJM
12-11-2006, 16:57
all I can say is that my new flip key is 434mhz as ordered and that the instructions for programing it into the car worked first time

Just out of interest mate - what part number and frequency was your original remote key?

Cheers.

Nath.
12-11-2006, 17:13
the info on the side of my original key is

hella434mhz008444008548

it has a large "c" and a large "e" and a large "!" in a circle, then it has 0678 then 5fa

hope that helps ya :)

Thanks BJM (interesting acronymn to thank) for your thanks . . .

Yes funkyfin, go look at my posts earlier in the thread.

The remote frequencies are listed in a number of ways (433MHz, 434MHZ, 433.92MHz, 433.92-434.42MHz) but its semantics. All remotes in VW group cars use the same frequency regardless of what it says on the fob (may not be restricted to VWG cars). In fact this frequency is used over most of the world. Some countries in Asia and also Mexico use 315MHz but they are the exceptions.

so would my spare key with no remote have a immobliser glass tube in which i could remove and put into the new flip key and then just program the new key via the manual?

THerefore being left with a spare key which is a remote one and then the flip as my main key?

Going to check out keymans auction if so......

can't find a keyman ebayer.... is that definately the name ?... just want to make sure!!

Thanks to Spareman for the info and also BJM

So basically what you are saying is i cam buy off ebay any VW/SEAT remote with any frequency and it will be programmable!

Why on earth does everyone say you must get the same frequency key!!!!

I just sold a 434mhz one coz im holding out for a 433.92 one!!!!!!

Thats about the height of it mate - you would also need to get the flip key blank cut aswell. The sellers name is actually Keymanuk99

This was my exact querie when I was told about it. In order to check this when my new 434 key came I programmed it before getting it cut - and it 100% works. Plus the new VW flip keys all seem to be marked 434 which means you can get a newer, less worn one. The one I bought was brand new!

Alhambra flip key comes as two parts, the remote fob (7M3 959 753) and the blade (7M7 837 246 INB). Remember you cannot order a blank key blade from SEAT UK, they will only supply a cut one.

These new keys, do they come with a chip inside and is it this chip that is programmed to the car? Basically I have the remote key that came with my Ibiza but the spare is a non-remote one. Would my current remote one be useless if I was to get the flip-key?

Funkyfin2000
15-11-2006, 20:13
u can't reuse the transponder (the little glass capsule) after its been coded to a key once...

this is what your dealer will put in new for you and code to your clocks....

or im having an auto electriction guy do it for me...

spyke85
15-11-2006, 20:14
Thought it was just a case of using VAG Com to match the car to the key and didn't think new parts were needed.

what you do is get one of the vw flip keys, program it to unlock your car, get it cut, remove the immobilizer transponder from your non remote spare key and fit it in the flip key

then you have two remote keys one is the flipping one, the old non remote key will then not start the car but who cares

Ok, I am majorly confused. My spare key is solid plastic  Nothing to come out of it

if you prise apart your non remote key you will find a white rubber thing inside,

remove that and under it is the little glass tube immobilizer transponder thingy

Funkyfin2000
15-11-2006, 22:05
but what i am saying is that....

u won't get the key to starty your car unless the transponder has been paired to the car.

Once a transponder has been paired to a car u can't re pair it to a car....you have to get a new transponder....and then have it re paired...

any bought off ebay might not have new transponders in themm.....soe of them might be used...

TINCAN
15-11-2006, 22:30
you remove the old transponder glass tube out of your spare key and place inside the new remote part, if the new remote has the transponder in you jsut remove and throw away and stick your spare keys one instead, the only problem is if you haven't got a spare key to take the transponder chip out of ......

the transponder from the original non remote key is already paired with the car and if removed and fitted to another (flip key) it will still work

the remote programing has nothing to do with the immobilizer transponder

trust me I've done this and it works and so do other peoples

the reason the transponder is taken from the non remote key is because re programing the transponder costs upwords of £80

Funkyfin2000
16-11-2006, 09:42
but.....u are still grasping what im saying...

im wanting to give myself 2 FLIP KEYS and 2 SPARE KEYS

so therefore, i will keep my original key transponder in it....and will ket my spare key with its transponder..

i will buy 2 flip keys and will have these coded to the car....my local auto electrician will put a new transponder in and use his equiptment to pair my two new flip keys to my car......for about £60....

I'm sure a used transponder can be "re-sync'd" to your car mate.

Will the three button keys work?

Or is it only the two button ones?

I know the boot button won't work as the kit isn't fitted to the car as std to pop it - unsure about the other 2 buttons though. I take it you have a 3 button key to hand, so many 2 button ones on ebay I take it you aren't going to buy a 3 button one instead?

If you've got one you can always check it by synching it to your central locking, don't need immob chip in it or blade cut to do this.

Funkyfin2000
16-11-2006, 17:38
Well i was told on good authority you can't re sync the transponder....

and when u code the key you need ALL of your keys with ya as well and they also do something with the clocks...

when i get my 2 new flip keys done i will tell you all what the guy does....

myself and others on here have ordered the flip key logo badge as posted on here (1MO 837 891A ) and the stealers have said it's on back order so will take 7-10 days

I ordered mine on the phone and told the guy the part number and he confirmed the description as (seat badge)

well it's been about 4 days for me so I will keep you posted

Just found this thread from a cross post in the Leon forum :D

I've got a Seat badge thingy for a flip key sitting next to me - bought it in preparation for getting a spare flip to go with the standard one on my LCR, but haven't found one cheap enough for me :cartman:

Anyway, part number is 1M0837891AJGT (that's a zero for sure, by the way as I have zeros and o's to compare on the invoice!) and it's the black and silver one rather than the red one.

As posted before works out £2.68+VAT from dealer, which at least means no postage! Took 2 days to arrive for me, but I bought it 24th August so there's probably been a rush on since then!

ive now won 2 434mhz keys off ebay and we will see if they work with a mk3 ibiza!!!!

I have my doubts guys.....

is the mk4 ibiza and leon Hella keys originally??? Because the mk3 ibiza flip key i have for it at the moment is a SIEMENS, not a HELLA.
Will this make a difference?

Will the 434mhz keys work...

Big thanks to everyone on this thread for all of the info and know how regarding the keys.

I've now got myself a flip key for my Ibiza and all works fine (New key is 434MHz, old one is 433MHz). What's more i bought a 3 button one off ebay and the boot button works as well on my car!

The only problem i've got is that Timpsons have made a bit of a mess of cutting the blade and it feels like i am forcing it a bit when i turn the key in the ignition compared to my original key which is very smooth. Has any one else found this?

Anyway i've found a guy on ebay who can cut new blades just by having the keycode so i'm giving this a go as i don't want to damage anything just for the sake of buying a new blade plus its quite a reasonable price i thought... £7 for a new blade and cutting. I will post to let people know if this ebay key cutter is any goodwhen i recieve the new blade.

timsons cut my key and it works fine

the only thing was some scratching of the blade down to the brass from the cutting prosess

so I used some fine sandpaper to polish the plating away to expose the brass

I think it looks ok, not as good as the dealer ones that are cut and then plated

Interesting thread this...

Right then, got my flip key, got my new HAA key blank, managed to program the remote to lock and unlock the car, managed to get the key bit of the flip thingy apart (have a pile of springs etc)..

Good so far..

Two things left to do, which I would appreciate some help from you guys who have done it.

1) How do you get the tiny pin out to fit the new key blank ?

2) How do you get the Transponder out of your non-remote key in one piece so it can be fitted to the new flip key ?
When I removed the unwanted transponder from the flip key, it broke into a million pieces and came out as dust !!

Many thanks for any advice that you guys can give.

Nath.
21-11-2006, 21:37
to remove the transponder without turning it into dust use a sharp blade like a scalpel to gently cut the glue away

the pin that holds the blank in can be pressed out with a pair of plyers and a 10mm bit of a (thick) paper clip, you know the large ones not the normal size ones......................it ain't easy I would probably use my vice and a small nut for the pin to press out into

good luck

im trying to 434mhz hella key on my mk3 ibiza this afternoon...
whats the coding procedue?

Thats the easy bit.....

To code the remote you need the old original key in the ignition with it turned on.
Then lock the door with the new key and the remove key.
Then press unlock and horn will blip, wait 6 second and press unlock again.
The key is now coded to your car !

I have done this succesfully, but the difficulty that I am having is getting the pin out to replace the blade (looks possible though), and getting the transponder chip out of my 'spare' key in one piece.

I have a MK2 Tolly..

hgmm unsure...i used this one to code it before with the seat alhambra key...

1 ignition on to red lights on dash
2 turn off immediately and pull key out
3 HOLD 1 of the buttons down (dont matter which)
4 PRESS the other 3 times ( with a SLIGHT pause) 1 . 2 . 3
5 watch led on key (should flash) and doors usually try lock/unlock
6 turn ignition key back on to red lights and wait 5 sec
7 key out again and test operation

Funkyfin2000
22-11-2006, 14:02
in fact ive seen the following for programming:

To code the remote you need the old original key in the ignition with it turned on.
Then lock the door with the new key and the remove key.
Then press unlock and horn will blip, wait 6 second and press unlock again.
The key is now coded to your car !

How to program VW remote keys

1. Take the valet (original) key, put it into the ignition and turn the key to the
"on" position, just prior to starting the car.

2. Roll down the driver's side window (not required, but a good idea in
case there's a problem).

3. Exit the car and close the door.

4. With a second key, physically lock the doors (don't use a remote).

5. Take the first remote to be programmed, press one of the buttons and
the lights will flash once. Wait 10 seconds and press the unlock
button.

The doors should unlock. That first transmitter is now programmed.

6. Lock the door again (physically) with the key, (not the remote).

7. Press one of the buttons twice, the lights will flash twice. Wait 10
seconds and press the unlock button. The doors should unlock. The
second
transmitter is now programmed.

For a third transmitter press the button 3 times and for a fourth press
4 times.

Make sure that to test the newly program remotes, the original key is
removed from the ignition. Someone might be a bit frustrated trying to
test it with it still in 'program' mode.

If you are having problems check the key is right one for year of car,
the key and battery are good. Sometimes when trying to program the key
it won't turn in the ignition stopping you from following the rest of
the steps to program the key, when this happens it is the transponder
chip in the key that sends and receives info from the immobiliser for
starting the car, If this happens it will need to be synchronized/coded
to the immobiliser at a good local locksmith or other specialist to
proceed with the rest of the steps.

If you have a Ford Galaxy, VW Sharan or Seat alhambra-
Hold key in drivers door lock, turn to unlock 3 times, this illuminates red light in driver's door.Press and hold the unlock button on key and press the lock button 3 times to get light in driver's door flashing again. You galaxy remote key should now be programmed.

Im guessing this must now be due to these being HELLA keys and the Seat Alhambra key being a SIEMENS key!

As far as programming the key i don't know how to do that (except try a dealer or someone with VAGCOM?). IAlso i don't know whether a difference in makers will make a difference. Bear in mind that some of the keys that fit SEAT's were in fact designed originally for VW cars, SEAT just borrowed them. Might be worth starting a fresh thread and ask the questions
But as per my other posts the frequency on your key is irrelevant, the frequencies are the same ie 433.92 MHz, sometimes listed as that, sometimes with the .92 knocked off (ie 433MHz) or sometimes rounded up (ie 434 MHz).

07-12-2006, 14:21
there is a little pin near where the blade sits in that bit that flips you will need to push it out and keep it then remove the broken bit

timpsons can cut blades but don't have the right kit to do it... the key holder does not hold it correctly...

Bloke in timpsons told me this and said while they can do it if they are careful it can also lead to the key snapping or being cut wrong....

Just get a new one of ebay and try again... only cost a couple of quid...

justlivyalife
07-12-2006, 14:29
Took it to the shed put it in the vice and hey presto - it's out :D.

Just bought a replacement blade too so fingers crossed eh...
Won't take it back to Timpsons... lol

Chemical Al
07-12-2006, 14:31
would it be better for them to cut it befor you replace it in fob?

justlivyalife
07-12-2006, 14:32
Hmm the guy @ Timpsons never told me any of that :(.

But yeah I've bought a new blade off eBay hopefully be here for saturday then I can fit that and go elsewhere to cut it?

justlivyalife
07-12-2006, 14:33
Not sure what you mean Al?

gazjones
07-12-2006, 14:34
dont put the key blade in the key go and get it cut first then fit it into the fob less change of breaking i would have thought

Deffo get the key cut before you fix it back in the key..

I had problems trying to get the pin back in, got it started, then taped it a bit and it it ping'ed across the room..
Managed to find it after an hours searching, so be a bit careful.

Well worth fitting a new pin, did you get a new onw with your new blade ?

I got my blade and pin off ebay (Autodude I think he was called) which came from china..

The blade started a nice chrome colour, but then after it was cut, the grooves went a dull goldy colour.
As the original didn't do this, I can only think that my new blade is not as good quality as the original.

Does the job though..

AndyC567
07-12-2006, 16:50
Meant to ask, you guys who are playing with flip keys, are you planning to use Transponders out of syour pare keys, or get new Transponders to fit yor flip keys and then code to car ??

Just another word of warning really, if you do decided to use Transponders from your spare key, be very careful as the break very easily when they are removed.
I bust mine, and had to go along the route of getting a new Transponder, and then coding it to the car, which was loads of hassle !!

Still, I learnt loads and now know how to do it, so that is something I guess !!

Gaz, you were at the MK meet last night weren't you ?
So was I, I was going to have a word, but you were with the lot that disapeared outside.
Never mind, maybe next time..

AndyC567
07-12-2006, 17:45
is there enough key to grip hold when its been cut if it is just the blade
Yep, that was how my key blade was cut..

I then fitted it in the flip key using the pin etc once it was cut.

Chemical Al
07-12-2006, 17:52
how do the pins come out and can a pin be reused?

AndyC567
07-12-2006, 18:44
how do the pins come out and can a pin be reused?
They do come out if you use a small punch or a nail of a similar size to the pin..

Try and avoid the temptation of when it is part out, of using pliars to pull it the rest of the way, as this is what knackered my pin, it squashed where I gripped it.

Wasn't a problem though, as I got a new pin with my new blank blade !!

If you don't have a new pin, you should be able to re-use the old one as long as you are careful when you remove it.

I have heard of guys managing to remove the pin and blade and fit a new one without taking the plastic case apart at all.
The pin can be seen if you flip the key blade out about half way. I tried this, but you are working against the spring of the key all the time and it is very difficult to hold in the correct position.
I ended up taking the case apart and dismantling it all, but then if you fitting a new transponder you will have to do this anyway !!

I've been reading this thread with interest. I've one question, that I'm still not sure to the answer.

If I get hold of a key, probably a 434mhz model, can I check it will lock and unlock the car, without having to get the blade cut and the immobiliser transponder transferred across to the new key.

Apologies if this has been asked and answered previously, I must have missed it.

yeah u can mat,e of course.......the central locking part is independant of key and transponder.

That's what I was thinking. So basically I'm following Step 8 of Gaz's instructions in the first post?

8 to code the remote you need the old original key in the ignition with it turned on then lock the door with the new key remove key then press unlock and horn will blip wait 6 second and press unlock again the key is now coded to your car!

So I'm putting my standard key in the ignition - on Stage 2? But then it says 'lock the door' - does this just mean hitting the 'lock' button on the new flip key? As obviously I wouldn't have the blade cut yet to put it in the door!

Sorry if this sounds daft, but it's confusing me at the moment...

Cheers, Steve
