Hi Everyone,

I hope you enjoyed alconbury, I am gutted I could not be there. Joys of working in the NHS.

Anyway, I need help on chipping my car. Now I have seen reviews and peoples views on the different companies, ie Jabba, APR etc...

I have had my X plate ibiza 1.8T since May and I Have had a couple things done to it, but I have nothing but bad luck. First of all I installed an K&N filter (cone) and It buggered my MAF Sensor and I could not get my car chipped, because it was over boosting. Then when Seat evetually got the part in, I put my car back to standard filter. Then I went to Jabba to get my car chipped, and the guys were very helpful and chipped my car. They could only get 178bhp and the car behaved really badly, it was one minute ok and the next over boosting and going into limp mode. Now Jabba reset three times, but they evetually gave me my money back and my car is back to standard.

Now I am not blaming Jabba because they have been really good to me. But I still want my car chipping.

Has anyone got any ideas or tips? And why my car seems to like over boosting?

Cheers

Hehe, dont worry. Go back to jabba and tell them to put the chip in back again AND take a brandnew N75 valve with yourself and ask them to replace it. Your car will run fine then.

Also note there is a thread about replacing an N75 valve. Bill (Ibizacupra) has had this done.

Yes I did BUT..............

It has made zero difference to my power output.
Still gets 189bhp as proven on Jabba's rollers last night.
(see dynoplots section for plots)

I dont think Bill got/had any proplem with his N75 valve. There are some old threads regarding to this problem which may be worth looking at however. I had the same problem, very low power output after chipping....replaced N75 valve and voila.

Hmmm...my point was about the smothness and the behavior of the power delivery. I though the you (bill) mentioned that the overall delivery was better once you replaced the N75?

Got my motor Apr'd today, GFB lost power on RR (5bhp) (dunno if it was st up right!) so bosch unit back on. I am a bit dissapointed with the result from the chip

185bhp
212 lbs tourqe

Any1 else have this low figure?? Maybe cause of the hurricane??? Some people have reported a loss with this on a RR! AYP engine code. Any ideas on how to boost power?? (N75 possibly??)

M8, I believe the AYP engined car responds slightly less to chipping (dont know why) - sorry.

It's of interest that you got 212 ft/lb of torque though..

Try getting hold of a VAG-COM cable and laptop. That should give you a steady readout. my R gives as much BHP as your chipped one, but you have 15 odd more torque. Its' of note my R (and i believe some of the other R's) give ou 15-20 more torque than list anyway.

Cheers

standard bhp was 151 and torque was the same.

I got laptop and the vag-com software. Just cant afford £70 for the cable at the mo after folking out £800 for the chip!!!

Im using my bosch DV again since the Forge leaks vacuum at the rubber O rings and my car feels definitely stronger in the high rpm range. Gearshifts got lumpier but i enjoy the extra boost, dont ask me why and how this works. Maybe the slower closing stock DV makes the turbo to spin up better than the faster closing aftermarket DV, dont know. I had suspicious thoughts from day one using the forge, now im back on stock plastic sh.t and works better.

About the low power output;

AYP enignes tend NOT to react to chipping well, but this does not mean that they cannot be chipped. Mine is an AYP also and i had issues aswell. These "problematic" engines output less than 156BHP when standard, mine was 151 too. After chipping it was 163BHP, and MAF unplugged 168 (as far as i remember). Since i have written all these stuff thousand times here, i'm not going to do this again, read the following threads THOROUGHLY(!!!), take your time and try the things i did with my car. Now it performs well with plenty of BHP (195 in 33C deg) and torque (~220lb) and no problems since then.

This last post of mine (for Meeko who suffered from the same problem) summarizes what should you try at first. For example adjusting the N75 valve may increase or decrease boost significantly! Who misses just a few BHP (lets say 8-10) should try this in any case, but with caution as these valves tend to crack easily. My instructions in this post write to turn the N75 valve into the right (lowering boost), do it inversely and turn the screw in the N75 valve left (increasing boost).

Hi people, thanks for your multiple replys. Now this is probably going to sound thick, but when you take the cover off, is the N75 valve the sensor on the top left of the head or the right hand side.
The reason why I have asked this is because I have replaced the one on the left and It did not make any difference to my problems.

Really? Great! Any numbers (or dyno plot) maybe?

Dormouse, just a question about your car as yuo are one of the few with a Cupra R Ibiza. How much faster is it than the standard Cupra? Have you driven the standard one to compare? I'm not too bothered about figures just wondered how it feels in comparison.

I have owned both cars m8, so hopefully can answer your question.

Purely in terms of difference in power delivery i.e excluding any other difference, the R feels almost as torquey in 3rd as the std car did in 2nd....

Bottom end is not as noticable, but top end you get a good feel for the added power. For instance,. The 'iv'e run out of gear effect becomes a bit more apparent, and you can cruise round at stupidly low revs if you are not in a hurry due to the torque.

also say you did a bit of track driving where you might be 100 mph towards the end of the straight, in the R this is more likely to be 5-10 mph more purley becuase of the added torque at the top end of the range.

On another point, it's a good job the R has the brembos...it needs em! (or am i just a nutter?)

Hope this helps..

Must do a Southampton / Bournemouth and area meet sometime.

Yeah that would be good.

On another subject there was a Beetle in my work today with Pagid written all over it. Even the number plate was T1PAG. I think it also said Performance Driven "something" on it. Dunno what it was doing there.

I wish you could just buy the R chip from SEAT and put it in the standard Cupra Ibiza and keep the warranty etc.
