Hi All,

I've read on here the best way to remove a Mk4 stereo is to use an old credit card cut up - has anyone used this method and does it work ?

I went to a dealership to buy a set of removal tools but was told they couldn't sell me any as they were a specialist tool ? ( supposed it was to stop anyone getting hold of them, but when the car's outside it seemed a bit odd ! ).

Also tried a set of Autoleads European removal tools from Halfords but they weren't any good either.

So does the credit card option work - don't have any spare cards lying around to try at the moment

Thanks

i tried that and it didnt work, the method i used was to take the spare din slot out first then i took the front (face) of the headunit, it does come off but be carefull. Then you can see where you need to push a screwdriver or something where the keys would normally go and it was really easy. Hey im a woman and i managed it.

you can buy the keys at most motor factors or use ones that have come with other aftermarket HU. i have used the credit card method too its fiddly but does work

Vagparts have 2 removal keys for sale, one is listed as "VWradiokey" and the other is listed as "T10057". Are either of these any good?

drop into any motor factors and ask for the keys to remove a modern VW radio ( mk4 golf etc ) and they should cost you £3 max.
