View Full Version : How do you cure understeer in an Ibiza?

Hi

Im wondering if anybody knows how to minimize push (understeer) on an Ibiza. I have Bilstein PSS9 and its a great improvement but I feel the car still pushes too much. Anyone know of upgraded antisway bars, offset bushings, more camber or other solutions?

Thanks

Stiffening the rear would go some ways to reduce understeer by promoting oversteer. You have the adjustment on the PSS9's to play a bit with the damping.. Have you tried going soft on the fronts and harder on the rears?
A rear antiroll bar may well help this also or you could just play with spring rates on the coil overs.

i would say on my own it has oversteer on lift off, and understeer under power, but any powerfull FWD car would have the same.
I run +10mm spacers each rear at the moment (going to +20mm)

the handling is pretty neutral, but slightly understeerey under power.
Negative camber should also work well at up to 1.75 degrees and help promote turn in.

try adjusting your damping and ride heights first. soften front compared to back and lower front -10mm lower than back (or raise back +10mm than front - you get the idea)

Enjoy.

Do the +10mm spacers take the rear wheels "in-line" with the fronts? This would neutralise the handling yes?

cheers

Can you tell me where you got your wheel spaces Ibizacupra? and did you have to use longer wheel bolts?,

Cos i'm thinking of trying some on the rear of my leon

+10mm's still leave the rears inboard compared tot he fronts.
+20mm/side would bring front rear track +5mm rear biased.

Only had 2x5mm spacers to hand at RSD when we fitted them. Not the final solution though.. Proper spacers with hub centres are needed. - getting there though.

I got my spacers from RSD when fitting the PSS9's. The ones fitted are not what I will keep though and are only temporary. +20mm/side are being sought.

You can get +20mm spacers with hub centre from Demon Tweeks for £70-£80. RSD were finding me some from one of their suppliers, but I do not know which yet nor price.

I do have longer bolts on the rear though. mine are different bolts from std though as I am running TSW wheels at the moment, and these have taper shoulders and not rounded shoulders like the factory wheels do. RSD, again have a plentiful supply of bolts in various lengths.

Hope this helps

Bill,

Does this mean that you'll be selling the others. They'd make a difference on mine wouldn't they? Standard wheels/tyres/suspension?

I could be interested! :)

How can I change the Camber on the car? Is that something that I can do without any new parts.

Also, where can I get wheel spacers and longer bolts online?

Mosser,

Have a look here:-
http://www.oettinger.de/web_en/produkte/seat_leon/produkte.htm?myproductid=226&therange=fahrwerk

I assume these are the ones that RSD source (?).

Cheers Mik and ibizacupra, But just realised that with my 225 tyres on the leon, putting spacers on as well will push the tyres outside the arches so i'd better not do that!!, thanks anyway

The PSS9's have slotted holes in the struts which allow some camber adjustment. Allows in/out movement (when looking into the wheelarch.

Hi Andy
The spacers on mine are on load from RSD until we sort out the +20mm ones. They aint anything special, and even Halfords sell similar ones. You will definately need longer (round shoulder) bolts though. The std ones are too short in my opinion (less than 1.5 x thread diameter engagement)

Good old Demon Tweeks do spacers and bolts in various lengths.

regards

Cheers Bill, I'd have to get different locking wheel bolts too. Probably a pain....

Cheers Anyway
