View Full Version : Squeaky Clutch Pedal?

My clutch pedal developed a squeek on my way home last night. It's only done 600 miles.....Will try a squirt of wd-40 tonight.

My last car had a persistant clutch pedal "scrrreeek" that was impervious to lubricant......I must have accumulated 3 whole days of wd-40 spraying in the time I owned it, to no avail.

I eventually got so p1ssed off with it, I drove it into a tree and wrote it off.

And that is the case for the defence m'lud.

Please reassure me that this is not a common fault! :(

I get the same on both clutch and brake. Sounds more like the return spring rather than the shaft the pedals are mounted on.

Just turn up the radio, you'll never notice it ;)

My clutch pedal had the same problem for a couple of weeks but went away! Didn't sound as bad as yours, but i did turn the radio up more! :)

My advice -- don't leave the bus routes.

WD40 did the trick on my squeaky clutch - and has not yet returned

One thing you will miss is the squeak when it does go - sounds odd but for a week I thought something was missing....

Or perhaps I'm losing it faster than I thought

Hi,

I had the same problem after about 1000 miles.

When I had a wee look around the pedals I noticed some padding rubbing against the clutch. I cut some of this away - it allowed the pedal to move more smoothly but did nothing for the squeek.

Tried to ignore it but after a couple of days of tormenting that poor mouse trapped in the bulkhead, I took it back to my dealer.

It was fixed in about 10min, they said something about stripping down, rubbing bushes, re-aligning and re-lubricating. It was about 8am so I was not really awake.

Long story, however all OK now, I recommend a quick trip to your dealer!

Hope you get rid of your rodent as easily,

Steven

Thats a common problem on the leons, just take it to your dealer
and let them lube the switch found behind the clutchpedal.. or you can always do it yourself but it involves some panel removal..

So it may well be common then.......:(

Thanks guys.....I think  ;)

I turned the stereo up too (not a chore)~ from experience with my last car it's fine unless you have someone with you (work colleague, or yer mum) ~ then it becomes instantly noticable (to you anyway)....and DOES YOUR FLIPPIN HEAD IN AND MAKES YOU SO ANGRY YOU JUST WANT TO.......
(Or am I just letting this get to me?) :p

I've drowned my rodent using wd-40 ~ he's silent for now.

My car had some "wadding" rubbing against the pedal too ~ moved it but made no difference.

Interestingly It took me about 4 "squirt whilst excercising" attempts - the one that seemed to work was a spray in the area of the switch unit at the back of the clutch pedal.....which leads me to....

.....why is there a switch at the back of the clutch pedal?

I know how you guys feel!

I had a squeeky clutch for 6 months. My dealer took 5 attempts to oil it!

It's quiet at the moment, but it was always worse on cold/damp mornings. I wonder what winters going to bring? (apart from snow)

Well according to my eldest (3yrs) it will bring snow, which means it'll be "happy christmas" and Santa "wants to bring me" Cranky the crane, gordon, henry, skarloey, action man, max steel, a motorbike..........etc....etc....etc..... ;)

well my Leon now has this optional extra as well, introduced this morning at 2300miles.

So did anyone actually get rid of it without resorting to a dealer?

I'm probably going to get an oil change around 5k so dont want to do two trips.

Yeap it happens to everyone I think and should have to do with the increased humidity. What is that story about dismentaling the under steering dash I read? Do you realy have to do that? I definately prefer to fix it that taking it to the dealer.

wont snow make it silde smoothly , ie STABLE ???

be interesting to see what it does :)

as for fixing it ya self , WD40 will do it no probs , just work the pedal as well to get it in there , pedal switch is for cruise control where fitted , but is used by the ecu , as a signal .
