Morning all,

I bought two Kenwodd 600W subs and a 2x65rms amp (it is underpowerd i know) and it has been all working fine, being a bit underpowered i know but this is in the pipeline with many other things to get sorted. All of a sudden the subs went off, checked the cabling, all seems to be fine, power is being supplied to the amp as the amp light is on, so i cannot see what the problem is, pulled out the stereo to check the connectors at the back and that all seems to be fine, checked the cable going to the battery, that all seems to be fine as well??? can anyone please help as i am totally baffled as to what is going on.

Does anyone live local to me if they would perhaps like to meet and check it out, i live in Weybridge in Surrey?

Check the earths for your amps.

how have u wired the subs?

how far have u got the gains set on ur amp?

x/overs, are they set in the correct positions?

what are your settings on the head unit?

if they are new i would take them back and have a word.

how much does one of those cables cost and is it the small thin one which runs from the amp to the back of the stereo?

If as you say the power light is ON then it sounds like the 12V, gnd and remote are connected OK. Are there any status lights on the amp to say whether the outputs are shorted? A quick test would be to back the gains off to min and connect one of your front speakers to it. That will tell you whether its the amp or sub.

If you had a multimeter it would be very easy to do a quick continuity test.

sorry but when it comes to sorting out anything with subs or amps etc, i am coompletely lost as i am an engine man. So i dont really know what to unplug or plug in etc as a mate sorted it out for me but he lives innottingham and that is a long way to go for something which could get sorted out very easily. I think it iwll be a quick visit to the local ice dealer!

I think its best you pop along to your local friendly ICE shop.

Although I do live reasonably close, just off jn4A of M3.

I reckon its just best to get it into local ice dealer matey. doesnt sound too serious though as youve got power running to the amps OK.

the way to solve these problems check everything from one end of the car to the other and assume nothing
firstly does your head unit have any r.c.a. connections on back of unit if so check these are plugged in while you are at it check that they are plugged in at amplifier end
then check the power ,earth and remote wire and also the fuse in the amplifier
if all seems to be o.k then dissconnect the subwoofer speaker cable and plug in any other speaker you have lying about turn the gains right down on the amplifier and gradually turn up the volume on your head unit if you get any sound out of the speaker then there is probably something wrong with subs if you dont get any sound and everything else is correctly installed and working it could well be the output devices of your amplifier have blown

Genesis,

Thats kind of what I said already, but he doesn't want to start disconnecting anything himself.
