Hello
I have a X reg (2000) Seat Ibiza Cupra T and am looking to lower the suspension although will it damage anything if i do as i was looking to just use springs? Is this possible?
Thanks

Using just springs is possible, but having gone down this route originally on my 8v I'd go straight for an uprated spring/damper set up. Your handling will go to pot after v little miles as your standard shocks will wear out at a much faster rate using uprated springs with them!
The cost difference in nominal considering the increased handling of a spring and damper kit.
In both cases you'll have to pay for tracking and camber to be reset, so IMO you'd be better off doing it properly in the first place rather than having to spend more money in the long run!
Approx £150 for uprated springs fitted
Approx £350 for springs/dampers fitted
Worth the extra imo

Get MarkP to fit em! He drives 120 miles to change springs on a whim.
He's da man.
On a serious note (rare). The set-up on the beezer it quite easy to remove. I recon (i know) a cupra R spring and damper set-up will improve the std Cupra mk3 alot and only lower a little bit.
Currently trying to find out if the R setup is simply a damper change or a damper and spring change.

Ha ha Dor
it's been done more than once (twice on my car, once on yours)
Don't bother with the old dampers - we changed mine after ooooh 9 months of lowering springs & the dampers were not exactly pristine.
Proper damper kit coming up after the MOT.
Like Dor says, the springs come off on your car with 2 or 3 spanners & can be done inside a couple of hours. then you need the alignment for the fronts doing (which I'm sure I'll buy the tools for shortly) else that should cost about £35+VAT or free if you work in the right place (which you do)

cupraTgirl (can we horten that to CTG...)
On another note. I have a Forge DV spare going cheap for a simple stater mod - interested?
Also some very unused (100 miles) Pagid fast road pads)
Cheers

Matched spring & damper kit is the only way to go unless your not bothered about having a car that will handle like a sack of shite:wink2:

H&R Cup Kit or Bilsteins are quality suspension kits.

Bill
I have got a set of Koni adjustable dampers and H&R springs and the handling is great. If you are going to go near your suspension do it right and get both springs and dampers.

Dc I can do for 40 notes mate.
It not a whoosy one...it's a DV006.
In case you are wondering there is bog all difference between the 6 and 7 in terms of performance. You just don't need a screwdriver to change the sprin on the 6.
Dor.
go for the H&R cup kit, absolutely superb, worth every penny, about £550.
the whole suspension's settled in nicely now and boy is it low, but not so low that your scrapping the ground.
i live in a area with loads of speed bumps and never had a problem with scrapping.

With 17's and a lowering kit, do you get any problems at track days when pushing it round corners?

Where can you get the H & R cup kit that you are all mentioning?
CupraTGirl,
Auto-AmD in Bicester can supply and fit this kit, I think Autotechnik in Southampton can supply and fit it. Not sure of any more local places in the Woking/Guildford area - still looking into that myself.

I've got 02380****** in my phone.
ps if you ring them ask about the B&M shortshift for the Ibiza 02a, need to drum up more interest!
got my H&R kit fitted over the summer by the friendly lads and lady at www.awesomegti.com
10% discount to cupra.net members too
get a few quotes in, as prices can vary a lot.
Migzy, who charged you £550? What was the breakdown.
Saul,
How much was that? Manc's a bit of a drive from here. I think Auto-AmD were about £500-£550 (if I remember correctl from utter_hatred).
Might have to put my susp back a few weeks now, a deal just fell off the table
Got my H&R kit fitted at Awesome, approx £450 all in. Superb ride, probably best for money IMO and looks the B**LOCKS.

Autotechnik will fit this kit for £141 inc VAT and alignment plus whatever the retail cost of the kit is; Vanessa says "£375-£400 I think".
60mm drop front and 40mm drop rear (I know there are loads of threads on this already so apologies for repetition).
Not sure what demand for this kit is from forum members or whether we might obtain a group buy discount.
In any event, I can't afford it this side of Xmas but may try and get a group buy going in the new year unless somebody else is desparate to do it first.
AwesomeGti seem to have a competitive price but it's a bit of a trek from here and I'd lose the saving in petrol anyway.
H&R kit at Awesome was £325 + £100 for fitting less 10% then vat on top.
Kit for 20VT drops front 50mm, rear 40mm.

Thanks guys
So you reckon the best place to go is Autotecnik?
Or the Awesome place?
Do you know where they both are?
What about a 60mm all round drop?
Awesome is in Manchester but looking at Whelme's price you could still make a saving. Give Autotechnik a ring they're in Southampton, much closer to home and if their price is confirmed to be nearish to Awesome's then you'll save the difference in petrol and time.
Or you could go to AMD in Bicester. If you like shopping they have an 'outlet village' type thing which you could spend more money in whilst your car is being sorted. Probably a 1.5-2hr drive still (an watch out for police on the bridges on the M40! Especially when it's sunny cos you won't be able to see them!)
Might look real good but, slap on some 17s and some ppl in the car and you might wish you didn't. I don't fancy your chances of coming across the Hogs back or up the High St in Guildford with that. That's not to say it can't be done but Whelme's car looks well low and prob looks lower in the metal too.
I read that Cordobabrendy had quite a big drop and couldn't negotiate speed bumps without tearing off his front splitter assembly.
and when you're proper low the driveshaft angle is bad
had a look under mine (-40mm) at the front & they're pinting upwards when the car is unladen & stationary. god knows what it's like when i put the power in a corner

Mine is 40mm drop and has eaten 2 CV joints this year in 9 trackdays - keep them driveshafts as straight as you can ! - 40mm drop is max height on the Spax RSX kit - would really like a top uprated spring/damper combo that is std ride height ! only one I have ever seen (at a reasonable price) is by H+R, in a USA mag, and the UK muppets dont know anything about it - could be +1 to -1" from std.
Lots of racing websites in the US say dont go lower than 1.5" drop or handling really suffers.
Ave it
