Hi all.
Not sure if this should be in the insurance section but when I posted this advice on another site (now defunct) it got good feedback. I can't see it here so here goes.
Next time you get a quote for insurance add a parent or similar old duffer as a named driver.
My mother is a named driver on my insurance. She is 77 with a full clean licence, has a different address & post code but when I added her to my quote the price dropped.
As long as the person you add is a fairly close relative your quote should drop.
NOTE. My mum is not the main driver or registered keeper and she is retired.
Worked for me, hope this helps. :)
Regards Guy.
Yes this usually helps - they see it as someone else (more experienced than yourself) will be driving some of the time, so the risk of your vehicle being in an accident will drop......
 Thanks for this. Put my 80 year old grandad onto my insurance and got a £50 deduction. Not going to change my life, but still well worth doing.
Cheers for sharing,
Ste

May not work for everybody - I added my dad (40 year licence, no points, no accidents, full NCB) and it would have gone up £200!

Same here, added my dad and it went up by just over £30 on my LCR. Tried it last year with NUD and again this year with the AA... sorry dad :( lol
My mum doesn't drive, so I thought I'd add my 23 year old sister, just out of curiosity, I mean she's only 23, not been driving long, only has 3 years NCD - dropped the price by nearly £150!!
Might start taking some of mums pills, grow me some boobs - maybe worth it for half price insurance - could do a lot with the £400 odd savings every year!
Another thing I don't understand... I asked if it would be any cheaper if, rather than my car being in the garage at home overnight, my car spends half its time at work, behind a locked security gate, security swipe access barrier, 24 hour security guards & colour, date stamped CCTV which records 24 hours... No. My quote went up by £24! Why??? They really think this is less secure than my garage??? :banned:

I think it works mainly for younger drivers, not 100% on that tho...

I wonder why this works for some but not for others?
Could be down to the insurance company. I use Elephant. £277 comprehensive.

I'm with Adrian Flux....
This worked for me.. quote dropped around 500quid when i put my mother and father on. Im 20 with no ncb, no points or accidents and 3 years driving experience. Rents are in their 40's with clean license and no crashes and max ncb... happy days.. all i got to do now is sell my current car and find a ibiza cupra.:p
Slightly different but has anyone tried getting their car insurance through CSMA at www.csma.uk.com ?
Basically it is though Frizzell / Liverpool Victoria Insurance and you get really big discounts if you or your immediate family are members of CSMA. Membership depends on your job and the type of company who you work for or have ever worked for in the past.
I joined and got my car insurance renewed by them this week and saved just over £100 which is a tremendous saving for me (was just over £300 now just under £200). Policy is fully protected and guaranteed not to affect my NCD no matter how many claims! I think it's worth a try if you are eligible:)
