I had a Kenwood KVT627 DVD player fitted 2 days ago along with some Rainbow SLX 265 components (and crossovers) in my SEAT Leon FR Tdi.
The car still has the standard rear door components and i've got a JBL subtube thingy in the boot (need it to be removable for boot space).
Anyway, setting up the HPF on the stereo, something is badly wrong. There is control for the HPF on the front and rear speakers and of course a LPF for the sub.
Setting the HPF on the fronts to 40hz, the rears for 40hz and the sub to 60hz, the sound is very weird. It sounds very separated, with little presence in the front, more (but not much) in the rear and the sub sounding very disconnected from the sound (and fairly quiet).
Putting the HPF up on either the fronts or rears makes very little difference. No here's the more weird bit...
Putting the fronts on thru, the rears on 40hz the sub on 60hz, the sound is much more coherent with lots up front, nice range of tones and generally a balanced sound. Putting the rears on thru (leaving the fronts on 40hz), the sound reverts to the sames as when both fronts and rears are on 40hz HPF (ie, very separated from the sub bass and sounding much worse then running the fronts on thru). Putting the rear on thru and fronts on 40hz, gives the same result as putting the fronts on thru and rears on 40hz (ie nice balanced sound), which is messed up, as surely the two pairs should be independant in their sound production and filter frequency??
I've tried faffing with the settings for ages and i know something is wrong. Also, possibly related, some mp3's produce a very high pitched squeaking occasionally.
Please can someone help?? I've taken back to the place and they're stumped!
Thanks,
Dan.
