View Full Version : Leon TDI 110 SE oil consumption
Got a brand new TDI 110 SE in September. Just checked the oil and it was just below minumum (I hadn't checked for maybe a month). I've added nearly a litre which has brought the level to just below maximum. I do 40 miles a day, mainly at motorway speeds and have been taking it to 4000-4500 rpm a couple of times a week through the gears now that it has done 3000 miles.
What sort of oil consumption are others with this engine getting?
Cheers,
Mike.
Mine has never used a drop, but I know a couple of other folks on here had a similar fright ~ apparently oil consumption is fairly common with this engine whilst it is still tight, but after 10K miles or so it dissapears.
In fact I've overfilled it a bit - it's about 2mm above the top bend on the dipstick. Should I worry? It doesn't look to be smoking.
Mike.
mik is right. Just keep an eye on it until it slows down. 2mm above shouldn't cause you any problems.

Ta - the guys at TDIClub say pretty much the same. At this rate the level will be below the kink by next weekend anyway :)
mine needed a top up at 7000 odd miles, normal apparently as they use a different grade oil from the factory, but its been ok since
All 3 TDI's I've owned have had high oil consumption when new (about a liter every 6000-7000km). Oil consumption should drop off, all 3 did somewhere between 20000-30000km. The toledo still consumes about 0.25l between changes (changes at 15000km).
Paulo what type of oil are you using (brand & type), is it VW 505.01 compliant ?

I've now had my TDi SE 110 for just over 5,000 miles and 8 weeks. It has not used any oil in that time.

I've used Motul through all 3 TDI's. The 90 & the 110 both used Motul 6100 Synergie 5W-40 (100% synthetic).
The PD has been using 6100 TECHNOSYNTHESE -VW505.01 (semi-synthetic).
I've had quite good results with this oil, actually the seat dealer started using it exclusively. I'm still waiting for Motul to come out with a fully synthetic 505.01 or 506.01 oil.
The 505.01 and/or 506.01 is only really necessary for the PD engines.
