just wondering if anyone knows if I can keep the disc changer thats in the leon cupra r and put a sony md unit in instead of the standard tape?

Nope, as far as we know there isn't a compatible head unit that works with the standard CD changer. Its a Panasonic unit but has a bespoke interface to the Aura which is made by Grundig as far as I know.

I got an Audi CD changer (std Leon changer) connected to my Ibiza stereo system. The socket itself is not compatible but the wires seemed to be the same, so we could hard-wire the changer to the Ibiza stereo system and works fine, not a single problem.
