View Full Version : Tyres :(
Hey there chaps,
Just cam back from my most expensive trip to the pub at lunchtime. Just ran over a lump of concrete at the side of this countrylane. LARGE puncture in side wall of my left front. Shame as they were virtually brand new Michelain SXGT's. Only picked up the car a few months back.
Anyway, the warning is this. Just phoned around the tyre places and michelain have just changed there tread patterns. SXGT is not available anymore so although I could have got away with replacing just the one tyre (as they are all virtually brand new) I now am faced with the prospect of 2 new tyres unless I can track down someone stockpile of SXGT's!
Thought this is the sort of info some of my fellow Beezer Cupra owners may be interested in & thats why I'm posting. Has anyone else had to deal with running the car with the space saver on. Makes driving interesting. I especially like the fact I have to switch off the traction control as it keeps cutting in otherwise. (I guess this is because of the mis-sized wheels?)
Stay Cool.

Hey not such bad news afterall. The dealership where I got my car from have managed to source a single SXGT from there suppliers. Should be here tommorow and its not expensive either.
I have just noticed that there is a small chip on the edge of the rim where I quess something has hit it. Really little, not noticeable. Anyone had much expereince with refurbishment or is it not worth my while arseing around with if its hardly noticeable anyway?
Just annoyed with myself! :(
On another note, has anyone played with tyres on the new cupra and found any to be outstanding? A friend of mine just had some bridgestones fitted to his TVR and he reckons there the dogz.
Cheers,
A

I have had a similar problem, clouted a curb and took a small chunk out of the alloy and damaged the wall of the tyre :(
there is no 'give' at all, I was only doing about 2 mph at the time but just caught the curb wrong
It was ok to drive on, but I was gutted as the car was only 4 days old at the time.
Was so upset about it that I ended up buying a whole new tyre and alloy from SEAT at a cost of £250  , just so I didnt keep looking at it !!
Expensive I know, but then only the best for my beeza :D

What tyres are supposed to be standard on the Cupra..??
I bought my car brand new and it didn't have Michelins on it..
My car came with Pirelli P-Zero's on it..
In the dry.... they are the dogz danglies...!! stick like glue, although a little noisy at speed.
In the wet.... they are the cats arse...!! they slide all over like f*ckin metal on ice... they are obviously a dry weather tyre.. lol
I like the P-Zero's personally, although I reckon I am going to have some fun in them over the wet winter.. they are very expensive (about £195 each), but I may well stick to them when I eventually have to change tyres.
I have also painted in the "P ZERO" letters on the tyre in Red, which is a bit sad I know, but it looks the bollax.. goes with the red callipers :p
So Flapper... what tyres are standard fit on the Cupra..??
Cheers..

Mine also came with Pirellis - P-Zero Assymetrico (spelling)
How Much??
Glad I am running on my other wheels with 205-45-ZR16 Goodyear Eagle F1's. They kick the Pirellis into touch, and cost me circa £70 each earlier this year when I bought them.
I could buy wheels and tyres for the price you have been quoted for tyres alone!
Eak!
Bill

Strange this thread should come up and you offer to source cheaper tyres... I checked my NS front and its shagged! Opps! Forgot I have been bashing Combe in it, and the tyres have done all year on the Jetta before!
I do need some tyres sooner than I realised.
I used ETB before in Chelt...
Could you get me a price for 2 and 4 off 205-45-ZR16 Goodyear Eagle F1's please.
many thanks
Bill

I had Michelin Pilot GT's on my old 8v cupra and they were damn fine tyres...wore well too!....dunno about the P-Zero's on my 1.8T Cupra....not entirely convinced by them....agree that they are a dry weather tyre though!....not prepared to swap them out yet as they are only 2000 miles old!
Oi! flapper....any sign of the Beezer Cupra mudflaps yet?
bill , ill sort it out monday and give ya a ring and nope sorry STILL no news on the mudflaps , apparently NOT YET AVAILABLE ????????? WTF are they playin @
OK, so I have just got my motor back from the dealer after they managed to fit the Michelin they tracked down for me.
Unfortunately it looks like the tyre guy has levered round my rim and more has chipped on it. Whereas the damage previously was almost un-noticeable I am looking at a new alloy I am sure now.
Can anyone give me a roughly accurate price for a brand new Seat Ibiza Cupra alloy, not including tyre?
The rim isn't actually damaged from the kurb it actually looks like its chipped as oppossed to kurbed?!? Looks like a top layer has come away or something? Is anyone aware of any way of repair?
Help Appreciated.
An Annoyed
A:devil:
PS So from the looks of things on other posts the tyres I should look at getting next are some Goodyear f1's??

My wheel was approx £161 inc VAT and took 2 days to get.
Make sure you get the correct ones, they asked me for my VIN number to check it was the right one ( even though I think there is only the one type ) ?????
