I dont believe this, Im 18, live in london, have 0yrs NCB, nothing bad on my record and pass plus yet the insurance companies want 3 grand off me for insurance.

Can anyone help suggest some cheaper companies. Ive tried direct line and confused.com so far and they both want 3 grand for a 1.2

:roflmao: 3k for a 1.2 OMG but saying that, if you live in london the prices will be higher, but that mush higher, that is shocking. Try either Elephant or direct line they are pretty good.

Have a search on the net on tips for reducing your insurance costs, moneysupermarket.com is a good bet and so is www.moneysavingexpert.com

honestly you may have to change your desired car, Have you thought of a 1.2 Skoda Fabia, they sit in a lowly group 2 i think, but until you have that first year NCB its gonna be hard and expensive, or maybe think about a car worth just £500 thats how most of us had to start. sounds nasty but unless you are Rothschild, you will have to lower your car expectations. Or alternativly buy a car with free insurance, still soem about i think

I assumed he'd already bought the car? Try Norwich Union they were the best for me when I was in ur situation (actually I was 17 but lived in Aberdeen). Ended up paying about 1500 fully comp. My last renewal when I was 19 was 450 quid! It comes down drastically once you get a years NCB under your belt.

But saying that Norwich Union will give you your first years NCB for pass plus when u don't have any.

I didnt know about that with norwich union., I will try them.

I havent bought the car yet luckily enough, I have also tried confused.com and the cheapest quote was 3,000.

How many miles per year do you guys drive? Im mainly just a weekend driver so maybe I should insure myself for about 5,000 miles a year?

it sucks i know, but new drivers always get stung now, but 3k? for a std 1.2?

you need to get busy shopping around mate. The main sources have already been mentioned. Found that moneysupermarket.com do give tips as your inputting your info on reducing the premium. Some companies give a free 1yr NCB to new drivers, so thats something to keep an eye out for. Good luck!

My son got his own policy ona 1.4 Fiesta for £1043 as a first policy (next nearest quote was £1700). BELL did it, although ntehy wanted £400 to pay by instalments so put it on credit card and shifted it to a 0% balance transfer.
ONE GOOD TRICK put an older person mum or dad as a named driver. Thewy calculate that they will be driving for 20% of the time and reduce the policy.

Bell also do an accelerated policy so you get 1 yrs NCB in 10 months

Is it any wonder so many young drivers have no insurance

When you are young you will find that insurance companies will vary tremendously. Get yourself a yellow pages and phone everyone in there.
Also as has been mentioned add an older relative or girlfriend as adding my girlfriend (younger than me) and Dad saved me nearly £150.
Raise the excess as high as they will allow (just don't crash) and pay in one lump.

I'm with Quinn Direct - £1350 on a brand new TDi Ibiza, 18, 0ncb.

Worth a try, undercut every other quote by £300. Insured on other cars TP, and only £130 excess. Unlimited mileage policy with legal cover.

damn thats good. When did you take out the policy?

Do you guys get better deals when you actually phone them up than on the internet?

I have gone through tons of different insurance companies online, and even phoned up a insurance broker yet none of them can get me insurance for under 3 grand.

BTW nice car, is that the standard bodykit?

Took the policy out on the 1st of November... then swapped to the Ibiza at the end of November after a drastic change of mind. not looked back.

You'll never get cheap insurance if you don't do some haggling on the phone!! Play off admiral/NU/Direct Line :).

Yep the standard kit on the post April-06 facelift :D.

I tried to get Direct Line to match the deal I got offered by elephant and got told "We are not a price matching company".
So they lost my business which I had with them for at least 3 years. Haven't looked back since.

The other trick that Direct Line do is give you a 10% online discount when you take out the insurance. You don't get it again when you renew so your renewal is always more than the previous year.
