View Full Version : fao Daz: ESP and other parts on imported Ibizas
I know ESP, Rainsensor pack, heated seats etc aren't available on UK spec Ibizas but are available on RHD imports, so my question is this... what happens if someone with an imported RHD Ibiza has a problem with one of these systems? Can you (Amethyst) get the parts to fix them?
So, now here is the real question... if you can get the parts then in theory I guess you could fit them to a UK Ibiza??? :)
Is this possible?
Basically, would it be possible to fit ESP and the Rainsensor packs to a UK Ibiza?
Thanks,
Ben
for the rain sensor pack go to www.hella.com
Is the European Ibiza Rainsensor pack made by Hella?
nope but they do an aftermarket one
the impossible IS possible , but miracles may take a little longer
and probably cost a small FORTUNE :D
wots up you aint bored already are you ;) ;) :P
No, not bored.... in fact the car feel faster and faster each day! :)
I have been getting an average of 28-29mpg to and from work (30 miles each way), but today I decided to see just how economically I could drive.... I got 41mpg average over 30 miles!!!
Couldn't hndle driving like that any longer and floored home after work! :)
Anyway, what was we talking about.... oh yes, ESP, Rainsensor pack etc.
I was just wondering why the Rainsensor isn't offered as an option on the UK Ibizas. and some Seat dealers say that ESP isn't available on UK Seats as theRHD steering column etc gets in the way of where the ESP control systems would go.... but this is rubbish as you can import RHD Ibizas with ESP!!!!
I'm only interested in ESP because winter is coming and I think it would make the car much safer.... you can always turn it off when you want some fun!
Anyway, any idea on prices Flapper?
Is fitting ESP a major job?
Thanks
Ben

There is no way of retro-fitting esp. sorry. Do you remember when Audi recalled all of the TT's because a couple took off in Germany? Well all the re-called cars had to have ESP retrofitted. We couldn't do it so they all had to go back to the factory in Germany!
Also just to make you feel better you can not get rain sensor packs or ESP on Imported ibiza'a anyway. My importer whom i ordered my cupra has told me those options are not available for the 2002 model. And such my car no longer has them!
I Will be taking delivery of my imported Ibiza Cupra very soon, and I can assure you that it does have the Rainsensor Module. It is a 2002 spec car, imported from Holland (I ordered it 13 weeks ago).
Cheers

Steve,
Why can't you retro fit ESP? How is retro fitting ESP different to replacing a faulty ESP system? Surely all the mounting points are there.
Ben
i will have a look @ the system , and see what is involved not sure if it will sit well eith your pss9's mind , but @ least i'll have a better clue soon .
leave it with me

Maybe better with PSS9's.... My ABS is less nasty with them on now.. (still nasty but less so...)

I have only just ordered my Cupra (about 3 weeks ago) And have had three phone calls cancelling various options that i asked for. The phone calls were from my dealer in holland so i doubt very much that the info is incorrect! Only time will tell!

Unfortunatly esp isn't just one system.
The esp control unit is intergrated with the abs control unit and will talk to no less then 10 different sensors, switch's and ecu's (which i can list if you really want to get technical!) to determine how to control the actuation of the system. i assure you its a very complicated system!
For more info please don't hesitate to ask.
Flapper, please let me know what you find out.
Steve, yes, I have read how the ESP system works and all the sensors etc (Yaw sensor etc), but I wouldn't of thought it would of been that difficult to fit.. Arn't some of the sensors already there as the ABS and Traction control need per wheel speed readings. But, your the tech, so if you say that you couldn't do it then it must be a real pain.
Thanks,
Ben

Anything is possible with enough money and time! To be honest ESP isn't that good anyway. We get loads of TT't back with ESP lights on some after only a few days of ownership! and if your a good driver you could drive quicker with it swithed off.
