Followed Jason's tips and did not spend £25 for chrome ventilation controls/dials or heater vents.

Go to home base and buy the chrome plasti-kote aerosol paint and the clear one as well (or another clear lacquer type thing). 2 layers of colour work a treat and it looks dead good. Be patient and let the paint dry properly!

If you need the haynes manual, just read it in Halfords! Try b4 u buy.

You can always do it in yellow for the full Lax Bowel effect.

I keep thinking about it but sanity prevails

Though the chrome effect sounds interesting.

don't wanna make you sound thick mate ,but did you 1st clean dry and primer the bits?or you may get some faking, unless the paint you used doesn't need primer, just thought of this as mine were a wee bit oily in some places so i washed em with a strong-ish detergent.
just checking .sorry if i sound condesending;)

Cheers for you concern Jason.

I used a chrome-look paint suitable "for all surfaces". It didn't need primer. I bought a satin finish clear sealer as well but that seemed not to work and looked horrible when wet so I washed it off under the tap! It might be different when dry, but I don't think it bonds to that paint type well. Tried this sealer on coloured-plastic handle screwdrivers which worked - but different bonding characteristics.

Exchanged the sealer for a clear paint (same type and can as the chrome one) and tried that on one of the chromed items - and it gave a disappointing dulled finish.

What I really need to find is a lacquer/clear paint that will bond properly without discolouration.... any ideas????? What about the lacquer sprays in Halfords made for metals??

I have sprayed the combined speaker/vent cover on top of dash and put back without lacquer at the mo. It looks good. Several coats used for a good deep finish but would like to lacquer it - also not sure of the paint yellowing characteristics but won' find that out till the summer. Rest of the dash is in pieces awaiting painting or to be covered in leather.

ps if any of you are going to the RR day at Stealth in Jan, all the interior should be finished by then - lots more blue leather and chrome to be fitted in the mean time.

firstly the laqure i used once was a bit yellow in colour, but took it back and got another batch from the same range and it was very clear, secondly go careful colouring the dash top,it will reflect back at you and all you'll see is chrome relections and on a sunny day may put you in the hedge.should be at the rr day so i'll take a look then:cheers:

I'm not doing the dash top, especially since it might dazzle. What I have done and contine to do is:

- covered in blue leather: passenger side tray, glove box/fuse cover under wheel, 'cubby hole' under centre console heating controls, plastic around gear/handbrake between front seats, the removable fascia housing heating controls. may retrim doorcards (just bits with same material as seats).
- painted in chrome: vent/speaker cover either side on top of dash, heating controls, will do side vents (facing into cabin) and headlight switch panel.

What laquer did you use Jason??

I've found that 2 layers of paint then 1 layer of crap 'dull-finish' lacquer' then another layer of paint give an even better shine and feel.

I want to paint the dash panels red, as well as the gearlever surrounds, but I have no intention of giving any money to SEAT for this job!;) Anyway, does anyone have any idea how to remove the relevant pieces from the dash? I have the 2002 Ibiza btw. Also, what is the most prefferable solution for painting them?
Thanks in advance!
Gus

If you mean the current Ibizas then the garage I bought my car tried this and found the best way to do it was to buy the front panel (ie the panel surrounding the dials), they took the edges of the dial cutouts (their aim was to remove the yellow rings around the dials) and found that they couldn't get them back on properly. Technician implied it would be ~1hr to get it off.

Yes, I am talking about the current model, but I was reffering to the air vent surrounds. They cost 17.73 primed, but if I can paint the current ones, why pay?;)
Cheers
