View Full Version : Replacement seats
OK, another 600 miles in one day and the standard seat in the Beezer is going to cripple me, so it's got to go.
Anyone got anything to offer on recliner types? I fancy the Cobra Daytona on paper, but would a factory seat from another VAG car be a better bet (Audi S3 perhaps), bearing in mind mine's a 3-door.?

Evolution Motorsport do Konig seats which are very good quality.
Konig being german made seats.
regards
Bill
Recaro are the obvious and expensive ones. Also come in OEM style complete with airbag. Also could source the S3 seats. There are also the VW Golf anniversy ones (apparently recaro).
Will you just do the drivers seat or both front ones?
Just the one I think, Dave. The missus thinks the standard seat is more comfy than both the 944's and the Scooby's, leading me to think she is either an odd size or doesn't appreciate good seats (I think she's too narrow for the bolstering).
I want to spend as little as possible on this (but obviously solve the problem), because this is one thing that I do not appreciate having to spend money to fix. The fact that you also find the seat totally inadequate makes me angry; it's obviously a design fault in the 'sports' seats.
I know the car will look 'Trev' with one odd seat, but I'll be sitting (comfortably) in it, so won't see it, and I'll store the original to refit when I come to sell it.
The Cobra is about £210, I don't think I'd get S3 seats, or Recaros for that sort of dosh.

Opps!
I am a "Trev" - LOL :D
Got a sparco bucket drivers seat (in black)

;)
Corbeau do some nice seats, and MOMO. Demon Tweeks comic has loads of them in their.
having a seat fetish at the mo i'd say the cobra jaquard fabric will tear easily as it has a very loose weave, the corbeaus have a much more "denim "type weave and i'd say more hard wearing though my winner would be the style, design and finish of the konig a reall good allrounder ,but they are a biyt more expensive and the sub frames also, but as with anything in life you gets what ya pays for:cheers:

So could you get a set of recaros in a beeza???? What bout the back?? any ideas how much?
cheers
I too, am getting seriously hacked off with the seats in my Ibiza 20VT. Rock-hard, too high and with a prehistoric tilt-style height adjuster - it's enough to make me think of trading it for a Golf 1.8T!
I presume the airbag loom just unclips underneath the seat?
I'm looking for something that doesn't look too aftermarket, that comes with a decent range of adjustment in grey or black? Any ideas?
Raceland seats which I've seen in mags, cos their website wasn't working, look quite 'standard'. Never sat in one so don't know what they're like.
Shock: you could get pretty much any seat to fit in an Ibiza if you had the right seat sub-frame. I'd be inclined to get one which isn't fixed otherwise your access to the rear is severely hampered and the position won't be very adjustable to acommodate other drivers.
As said b4, lots of seats and frames in DT catalogue. From memory prices vary up to £500 each.
Back seats, sod them, just retrim to match fronts if you really wanted.
Sparco and OMP seats which have adjustable/removable supports/cushions look quite comfy.
The DT catalogue doesn't have many recliners in it.
I sat in loads of seat at the Autosport show in January because I was looking for buckets for the 944. I found that most were a bit tight for me (being a bit porkier than is strictly ideal), but Corbeau did some nice XL ones. I broke the engine before I bought the seats anyhow and I want a recliner for the Beezer
Trev ????
I too am at present getting a Recarco fixed back comp seat re-upholstered in black for my wee Ibiza.
I have had a lot of probs sleeping with back pain which since it only started since getting the ibiza I am putting down to the seat.
I compute about 60 miles a day so having a comfortable seat is a nessesity , the one im getting done came from a Scoobie which got traded into a Garage where a friend on mine works , I managed to get it at a resonable cost and its not costing too much to get it tidyed up !
The reason I have cossen to do this rather then buying for instance a Corba even allow they may be cheaper I have heard some bad reports on how comfortable some of these after market seat's can be.
I spoke to a dude from Transcal( a company that predominatly does retrims for cars)and the boss man only ever puts Recaro's in his own cars as he says they are the only manufacter which uses back specialists in design. He really slated some of the seat companys and commented that some where very poorly built with sh_t material for construction. The point he was trying to make was that just because some may look good doesnt mean that they are.
And having two rigit backed seats would mean nobady getting into the back so way-hey call me tev lol
Looking Trev isn't necessarily a bad thing.
The standard Scooby seats were bloody comfy. I regularly sit in the car for 4 hours a day, sometimes twice that, and did in the Scoob as well with less discomfort than any other car I can remember.
The whole thing is very dodgy; I don't want to buy a seat and find it's rubbish, but the only way to really be sure it's right is to have tried it for several long trips.
My back isn't too bad since I stuck some foam in the seat back, but I suffer from lack of under thigh support and knee discomfort (the 944 was really bad for that for some reason, although I had a pair of shoes with square heels at that time and I think they had more to do with it) and I've had real problems with it keeping me awake in the past.
The Ibiza seat is bad for under thigh and is, literally, a pain in the arse; I get very tender under the bones that my missus knows the technical name for and I can't remember. That's a first for me, and it happens after a shorter and shorter length of time now. Basically the Beezer has the worst seat I've used since I started driving high mileages (in 11 years then), because the squab is too short, not correctly shaped under the buttocks and the backrest had no lumbar support.
I'm assuming that an aftermarket seat would be easier to fit as there may be a subframe available to suit (although there's very little out there for the MY02 Ibiza yet), whereas trying to get a Scooby seat to fit may be a nightmare. Given the number of Scoobies that have supposedly been stacked recently I should be able to find a seat for not too much to try out I guess, then I know it will be comfy if I can get it in. I'm not too worried that the backrest doesn't tip up if I only fit one.

Would it be possible to fit recaro's out of an S£ as they flip forward cause 3 door and similar size. Shouldnt it be quite easy?? and available from a dealer?
I reckon the only thing likely to be easier to fit than Audi A3 / 3 door Golf seats may be other Beezer seats. Then again you should see the trouble I've had trying to get SuperL's for the new Ibiza, when they are readily available for Mk3's (I've gone with something else in the end), so they may be completely different.
I'd be scared to ask what a pair of S3 Recaros would cost from an Audi plate-glass and white-floor-tiles outfit!
DT do the basic Recaro recliner for £360 or so +VAT +subframe, but that's going to be £500 for one, near as dammit.
just got mailed the motorsport catalogue from DT,the racaro's in there start at 250 ukp(+vat)subframe is another 60-70 i'd geuss, look good and in a range of colours, they are comfy and supportive too:cheers:

That's not so frightening. It sounds like I need a new DT catalogue!
to add, www.evolutionltd.net who import the lovely Konigs are offering seatcupra.net members 10% off their stuff, including Konig seats, which is nice :D

Yeah I know what your saying mate but this seat was an after-market job which had been put in a Scoobie. It is a Recaro non-reclining seat and it is as comfy as F lol.
Cant wait to get it in , Will there have to be welding done to get it installed people ??

Okay, okay, they look sexy. I'll get a price for a Konig, in black with yellow patches.

Got a feeling that the Golf R32 thingy has Konigs as standard so must be a good recommendation as VW had a long standing use of RECARO....
konigs also come with or without harness slots,so you don't look too trev, as you put it:D
I'm waiting for confirmation from Evolution that Konig do a subframe for the new Beezer. If they do then I'll be ordering one. Cheers Saul.

Does that still go for the '02 on Ibiza?

I've got a drivers side aftermarket subframe originally from a corbeau seat sat doing nothing, it sits the seat at factory height (top on the height adjustment!) I've made my own sub frame and my OMP now sits pretty much on the floor (even Saul's got adequate headroom in the car!;) )
It can be modded to fit any seat, pm me if interested! I assume the runners are the same as the older beeza's?!
Sorry M8, I missed your post for some reason.
I'll bear the subframe in mind, but I need to confirm that it would fit the mk4, and I'm not that keen on the height by the sound of it; my seat is at the lowest of the height adjustment and the car still feels too high from the seat.
I've just got off the phone with Evolution (because nothing had turned up).
Had a longer chat this time and they seem knowledgeable and genuinely concerned that I hadn't been contacted back with the info I asked for.
Hopefully I'll be getting a call back soon regarding some springs and mesh grills, and a Konig catalogue should arrive soon too. The '02- subframe is the same as '99-'02 apparently, BTW.
fenton - dont forget cupra.net members get discount at DT, check the main site
Fen, if i whip out a seat & take a picture & measure up the mounting points you can check out the subframe idea.

Cheers for that Mark, might be useful, but don't go to too much hassle because they seemed sure that they'd checked and it was all the same. I also have a Mk2 Beezer on my drive at the weekends as well!
I'm a bit wary of taking mine out because of the airbag system; I don't know if it will upset the electronics (it does with smarts, for example). The again, my airbag system is stuffed just now anyhow because of a dodgy pretensioner.
Andy,
Saul said that Evolution do 10% off as well. I think I've been convinced by Konigs over Recaros or Cobra / Corbeau's in any case. Good enough for the R32, good enough for the TDi Sport.
Fen, theres a clip under the seat for the airbag, its a bitch to reach tho and your airbag will need resetting via VAG-COM or 1551.
Ordered my K5000 the other week, due mid jan :)
did i mention that i hate you saul?;)
oh yes, quite a few times jase, you make the word c*nt to have so many uses
what colour is the konig m8?what ya doing with yer old seats'?;)
konig is black and grey mate, and im keeping hold of my old one, sorry dood :)
