View Full Version : Can stereo replacement affect the alarm?

I replaced my stereo on wednesday, and since then the car alarm has gone off several times (with no apparent cause). It tends to go off at some unearthly time in the morning (3.30 this morning), but I did hear it yesterday not long after getting home (so its not like it only happens after a few hours - it may happen while I am at work, but the car park is out of hearing range). The stereo has always been turned off (switched live wire from the stereo currently connected to permanant live), and has happened with and without the faceplate in place.

Is this just a coindcidence that it has started after changing the stereo, or can I have done something to cause this?

If you want to check that, look at your flashing light in the door when you disable the alarm If it goes out then it's fine if it flashes when unlocked and before you open the door then it's gone off.

Possibly something is shorting out? Realisticaly it should always be going off.

Right, this is doing my head in now!

I have taken the radio out altogether and it still goes off.
I have turned the ultrasonic thing off (is the sensor in front of the courtesy light?) and it still goes off.
I have locked the car and disabled the alarm (press close button on remote twice) and it still goes off!

Sometimes it will go several hours without triggering, others it will go off persistently for a few minutes then stop for hours.

WTF is going on!? I have had to take the fuse out for the alarm horn now - think I am going to have to get the dealer to have a look. Are they going to say its my fault by messing with the stereo?

takin the radio out altogether has proven that point incorrect

leave it out - and make sure the wires are all as standard

they'll trace whats up - not got a boot light on have you ;)

Unfortunately, I had to snip one of the wires on the ISO connector as the one that came with the stereo only had some of the wire connected so it will never be 'as standard'.

I'll have to check the boot light - how do they come on, I cant see any switches or contacts on the boot?

boot light switch is part of the boot catch assy

chuck the MRS in and shut the door ;)

keep keys handy though

I found the best idea was to take the parcel shelf out :-)

Anyway, no light on. I have been thinking, if I disactivate the alarm/deadlocks by pressing the remote button twice, how can the alarm still go off???

Problem solved :-)

It turned out to be a faulty boot catch. (They didnt have a replacement so just disconnected it - God knows how long the replacement will take to arrive!)
