View Full Version : Why did you buy a V5 not a Leon Cupra?

A question to other V5 owners. I have had my V5 for 6 months and really love it but still wonder whether I made the right decision not to buy a Leon cupra. I can't understand why there are so many cupra's about and so few V5's.

What do you all think?

Same thing here had mine since April, still not sure I made the right choice. I like all the toys and the engine sounds better than the Cupra. However I still have this little niggle that I should have gone for the 180Bhp.

Still if they would bring the Cupra4 to the UK then I would most probably change straight away. ( if they let me have Sat Nav at a reasonable price)

hi,had my v5 8 weeks now its the 150 version, wish it had more power love the car had a couple of problems with it hope it is going to be more reliable from now on. chose toledo instead of leon because i prefer saloons instead of hatchbacks like the fact that i rarely see another v5 about, had a v6 vectra sri befour and they were every where i looked the sri was quicker but the v5 is a much better drivers car , once my warranty runs out i can sart modifying it.:)

Why a Toledo V5. A huge boot. Having 2 young children I need a lots of space, but I also like a car with a bit of oomph. Also the Toledo V5 being less common has more exclusivity. Bear in mind the Leon Cupra is a bit of a boy racer car, give it 5-10 years and those currently buying Nova GTI's and previously XR3i's will be buying Leon Cupras.

P.S. Hope Leon Cupra driver don't read this as they might get upset by my predictions.

1) Engine

Power delivery, sounds wicked, tough as old boots :D

2) The Boot

Regular cross channel hops

3) V5 being phased out

So even more 'exclusive' ;)

4) Stealth

Take the V5 off the back and it's hard to tell what ya got

Both cars have their good points and bad points, after driving 3 V5 toledo's, I decided to go for a Leon Cupra.

Very happy with the Leon however missed the toys and the low down grunt and ability to pull in any gear at any speed.

Now I have the Leon R and am one very happy bunny.
:)

However I would still like the toys provided as standard in the V5 and that large boot did come in handy!!

I was very tempted by the Toledo V5 as I needed something bigger than the Leon cupra...

...but I fancied 4x4 and found the octavia, plus the 1.8T is a little more tunable.

Now if they had done a Toledo V5 4x4, it may have been different! :D

Leon Cupra wasn't even available when I bought my first V5. Got it in April 99 and it was one of the first batch in the UK. T377HBD Imperial Blue if anybody on here's got it now.

Well, I don't have a V5 but a 20V 125 hp.When I was bought that car; 170 hp V5s were available in Europe; but in my country V5s were still 150 hp.So I chose a cheaper Toledo instead of a old technology...

But why I chose Toledo not a Leon.

1) I dont like hatchbacks.A car must have a boot IMO.
2) Leon's back looks very ugly to me (Sorry to say that).

I don't regret purchasing the V5 and its interesting to read why others have chosen it. I bought one over the Cupra mainly cause I liked the toys and if I have kids in the next couple of years the boot would be needed.

I also agreed with the comment about the back looking better. Maybe this is because the Toledo was designed before the Leon. I know a number of colleagues who don't like the back of the Leon also.

I have thought about removing the V5 badge but so far I have resisted.

I also like the fact there aren't loads around. A bit of a well kept secret I think.

i can agree with the looks of the toledo being marginally better but it was the toys you get that sold me on the v5 plus the exclusivity plus i couldnt be bothered to wait for a cupra r , plus the interior of the cupra r lets it down a bit i think for the money, still imo the cupra r looks a lot meaner and boy racerish which i like better and less of an old man's car like the toledo.

still think id choose the v5

I agree with Cenk Kose. I really liked the booth. Probably has a little more space. I also bought the 20V and not the V5 because the V5 was to expensive for me :( Although now I wished I had one.

Most of all because of the lether interior which was standard, and again was a bit to much. The Signo with sport-look was enough, but now...

But I think the Toledo is a little bit more of a car and the Leon is more like a toy. Boyz Toyz :D Even though if I see a 20VT or a Cupra I always have to look :D Deff. nice to look at...

I tried both a new Leon Cupra and my current nearly new v5 170

I liked both but the Toledo won because

Toys - drool
Looks - nice
Sounds - great - fantastic engine
Quick - Fantastic cruiser - fast, smooth, quiet, effortless, comfortable and economical!
brakes - awesomely good
gearbox - less notchy
Seats - Great all the advantages of leather without the hot and cold
exclusive

Ample performance - Solid

Best car I've ever had

wot more could you want (alright, 200 horses, Long Wave on the radio
(I miss my Test Match Special) and a sunroof):D

Having decided to get rid of my Peugeot 206GTi company car and get my own car I needed something with more space but I still wanted the power.

The car had to be 4 or 5 doors and have a larger boot. The V5 did this and threw in all the toys a man could want!
Having seen a colleagues and test drove a couple I was really taken by the V5, lovely engine and gear box, and so quiet.

I looked at the Leon but was not reall taken by the looks, purely personal opinion though, and a few colleagues and friends love theirs.

Anyway I pick up my six month old V5 next week, am really looking forward to getting it.

Hey chaps Cupra R owner here and was just looking over the threads and saw that you all keep mentioning the great "toys" that the Toledo's come with - just wondering what they come with as standard?

Cheers chaps

Andy, The V5 (or later models at least) has the SEAT Satnav, leather/alcantara electric seats with memory tied in with the mirrors & cruise control all as standard. Apart from that its pretty much the same spec as the Leon Cupra & R. Earlier models had rear headphone sockets for the stereo and radio display on the instrument panel as well.

Yep, thats sounds about right, SatNav, 6 disc autochanger, climate control etc. The memory on the seats has been ditched I believe, not sure about the mirrors!

Looking forward to Monday now and picking up my motor!

Picked up my V5 this afternoon, well pleased with it.
Its a lovely car to drive.
Now I just have to come up with lots of excuses for trips out of the office!

Just to add to the 'standard' bits Trip computer, Auto dimming mirror.

Just about the ultimate 'Q' car nobody thinks its up to much but it'll blow GTi's away with a fantastic growl yes even the 1.8T GTi.

Seats are just fantastic - especially if you've got the memory seat model - Mirrors and seats adjust automatically depending on which plipper key you use - I'm 6'2 and my wife is 5' she opens the car and the mirrors and seats adjust to her preference and if I open the car it adjusts to mine - Toy of the century!

Although I thought it would only be a gimic the passenger mirror automatically adjusting to parking mode when you go into reverse is great no more chipped alloys!

It's also a much better cruiser than the Cupra!
