Hi All

Just been on the blower to APR and i think i mak have to take there 25% off offer. Im gonna be looking at around £670 to have it chipped, Cruise Control and a switchable program.

All im wondering is if its worth getting a switchable program, and how good the cruise control is. Any comments will be a great help as im gonna have to decide what to get done pretty snappy.

Thanks

I thought there were surging issues with the Ibiza and cruise? I know Bill had surging problems. APR themselves also mentioned it to me when I spoke to them about it.

Just having the option to switch programs is what ive found extremely useful.

There are sometimes, id like my old fuel economy, especially in the mornings driving to work in traffic, and times i just like to cruise about, so i like the fact i can switch back to my standard original settings, and back to tuned mode at the flick of a switch.

Security mode is good, stops people messing with it who shouldn't.

Mine benefits from the Optimax program they created for the Leon, but its not vastly better than the 95 mode it gets as default, and to be honest i probably wouldn't miss it, either program, 95Octane or Optimax 98+ bring a smile to my face. :)

Overall, id say get the cruise option, have the ability to switch between your standard and tuned mode, Get the security, and maybe the TBA (Throttle Body Adaption) and FCE (Fault Code Erase), both useful.

Sometimes the car can run a little differently due to weather, climate and temperature changes, i do a TBA every month or so, just to reset it all. And the FCE seems to help also.

TBA & FCE useful, but not neccesities.

Valet mode, bit of a fad in the UK really, may find it useful, if other people have to drive your car, and your not sure you can trust them.

Basically, turns off the turbo, and limits the revs to around 4500rpm in every gear. So it can't be ragged.

Not sure its surging issues, so to speak.

I think Bill had his cruise fitted elsewhere not by APR, though same principle should apply, but i remember Bill complaining of it hunting the revs a lot, and making him feel ill as a result of it speeding up and slowing down.

For example, set 60mph, starts roaming around that speed and climbing and falling rather than staying at the correct speed.

Saul has cruise fitted to his Ibiza (APR), dont think ive ever heard him complain of the problem.

I have it fitted to my Leon too, works brilliantly, i use it all the time on long motorway trips.

I vaguely recall Bill mentioning that his cruise surging problem disappeared when he re-routed the Hurricane feed pipe back to the standard position inside the wheel arch? I wondered at the time whether it was caused by some sort of air-flow pulsing effect through the MAF but forgot to mention it.

When i fitted my hurricane i did worry that the pipe waa not positioned properly, in fact still worries me a bit now. will it make a huge difference if its no positioned correctley? Has anyone got any pics of exactley where it sits? or do you think APR could show us when i get my car chipped.

Think ill be going to Awseome Gti in Warrington, Any comments on them?

Cheers for your help but £700 quids alot of money to shell out, sure ill be extremley happy with it.

Mark

Bill is really the man to speak to about Hurricane placement, try emailing him bill@badger5.co.uk

He is away for a few days on holiday, so be patient.

Awesome GTi no complaints, top lads they will look after you.

i have cruise control on my ibiza. Fitted by APR

It does jurk a little but the real worry is when you put ur foot down slightl to speed up while u have cruise engaged and when u take ur foot off it will slow down but will hit the speed you were doin before you accelerated. This can get scary as most people know when to take thier foot off and just let the car slow itself down.

This can be a prob when going on the motorway the most.

Italso takessome getting used to haveing it on while going round corners the first few times.

Do like it though as i do loads of motorway miles.

I had cruise on an Audi 100CD5E and, recently, a Senator 3.0 CDi 24V. With both cars you could use the accelerator to increase speed above that set with the cruise control, and when you lifted off the cars would resume the set speed. Isn't that how they should work?

So can i have a switchable chip without getting cruise control.

That would be better for me,

its not what APR claim - they said it would cut out if i touched any of the pedels. it works fine if i hit the brake or clutch and it cuts if i put my foot to the floor. but not when i gently accel. and let off. might be the right way its ment to work just wasnt told it.

Brake or clutch - yes (both have switches under them). Accelerator - no. The system sounds OK.

sps.......that is normal cruise operation. Can only be cancelled by brake ,clutch or cruise switch off. Accelerator will override if increasing speed but when decreasing it will only lower to last set speed, if you are travelling too fast at this point use the middle pedal;)

The Cruise on Ibiza,s can be eratic in windy conditions due to the lightness of the car and the cruise working overtime to maintain a set speed.

You can have an APR chip upgrade without the Cruise Control. This would be single program only hence not switchable. £449 less 25% + vat.

OK thanks richard. Hasnt been a problem recently as i just tap the clutch and that works fine i'm used to it, but if u havnt used a car with it can be a little scary if you dont know whats happening.

I had a pug306 and the accel cabel started to fray and catch in the tubing and it started to speed up and i couldnt stop it so i get a bit nervous when the car doesnt slow down.

Good to know its normal. :)

Thanks shane

My surging has ceased some months ago.. No idea why, but its ace now :D

Come to think of it, it did coincide with me re-routing the Hurricanes cold air feed pipe to the standard factory position (top of inner wing)

Mine suges a little when in chipped cruise mode but not in standard mode. I think its because it maybe overboosts/over accelarates when trying to maintain speed??? As the cruise was designed for a 156bhp not 200bhp & 7psi not 15?? Might be a load of ******** just stabbing in the dark for a reason, but it aint that bad that it becomes annoying!
