I'm getting myself a new 12" sub, currently considering offerings from Alpine, Sony and Vibe, all around the £100 mark with a box...

I've had a Sony 12" before, it looked great and i thought it was very good but general opinion is that you can do a lot better..

I'm assuming the Alpine would be quality even though its at the cheaper end of their range.

Not sure about Vibe though, i saw a Vibe showcar once, a TT and it sounded unbelievable.

Any thought anyone??

Any other suggestions?

Cheers
Chris

I got an Audiobahn AW 1251X for around that price, very good quality.

Wouldn't bother with a Sony one.

At the end of the day you're probably safe with the majority of subs, Audiobahn, Rockford Fosgate, Alpine, etc. What will make a massive difference is the enclosure it's in. A shite quality box won't see the full potential of the sub, sound proofing the boot etc. will see a big improvement in quality as well.

The boxes will probably be fine as they come but you can play about with different sizes for different sound, most subs are rated to run in specifically sized boxes, a 12" will probably need between a .8 and 1.4 cuft box. Obviously each end of the scale will give a different sound!

Hope this helps a bit, sorry for rambling on

I picked up an Infinity Reference 12" sub and box at GTi International this year, for £99. The box was free, but it was fully carpeted, sealed and had gold plated terminals.

I think it was Bass Junkies who sold it to me, can't remember.

Have to say I'm very happy with the performance of it. :D

Chris, I bought a sub and amp a couple of years ago from Sextons in Southampton. They cost me about £300 and sounds great. (£150 for sub in box and £150 for amp) I think they are made by Aura which I may be right ni saying the standard head unit in my car is also made by?! I dont know but I dont think its a great make but does the business.
