Sorry for not to know exact word for that part, but I think you all understand what it is..
My 2001 1.8 signum Toledo at 42500 km (ca.25k miles I think) was in the service today for changing the clutch.
1 year ago when I was parking the car in a small parking place on a steep rampage; there came a burning smell, which lasted one week. The guys at the service say that this could be the reason for this early clutch break.
Juz a curious query -
what is the normal lifespan of the clutch ??
had a feeling that mine's not going to last till 60,000km :(
had problem engaging those gears recently
My V5 is on it's 3rd clutch at 66K miles
The last one lasted a whole 14K miles before falling apart !

I reckon thats whats up with mine
A few weeks ago i got a nasty smell in the car, like something burning
Now i get a grating sound when i change up gears (not every change ) almost as if the gears aren't disengaging straight away
Its going in for its 10K mile service on the 23rd

As I realize from these posts, SEAT clutches are not long lasting, reliable parts..My friends have some Renaults and they have never changed clutch, some of them are at 200-250 K kms though.
Yep, my previous car (Audi 80 sport) was on 155K miles when I sold it. Still on the original clutch !
Never had to change the clutch on any of my cars. I usually sell them with over 200000km+. Granted I do mostly highway driving.
Me neither. The Toledo is the first car I have ever had a clutch changed on. And that's doing 30K + miles a year too.
Just hoping it doesn't happen to mine, I do 80000km+/yr. I'm sure it will/would cost a bundle to replace.
Sure would. The V5 clutch assembly cost around 900 Euros. Then there is the dealer mechanic labour charges on top.......luckily the UK used SEAT warranty covered the work !
Not my case as the 2nd yr warranty does not cover transmission & clutch. Already up to 93000km without any sign of a problem. Let's just hope it keeps up.
My Leon has done 60k miles (100,000km), 40k miles of that with the chip, still feels strong.
Normal Clutch life should be 70k miles (110,000km) if driven around town, having said that my experience shows these mileages, most driven quick.
1994 Primera 1.6LX - 40k miles (65,000km) (I bought car with 38k)
1998 Primera 2.0GT - 37k, and again at 54k (bell housing replaced under warrenty to cure fault) Still in family, now 68k miles
1990 Montego 1.6LX - 77k miles (125,000km)
1982 Datsun Cheery 1.3 - 75k miles (120,000km)
1990 Astra 1.2 Merit - 122k miles (200,000km)
The cars below still had original clutch when sold/given back to lease companies... or are friends cars still used
1998 Audi A4 TDi - 140k miles (235,000km)
1994 Volvo 850 2.0 20v - 85k miles (135,000km)
1991 Montego 2.0 GTi - 128k miles (130,000km) Still own this!!!
1994 Rover 420 GSi - 96k Miles (155,000km)
1996 Vectra 2.0 GLS - 100k miles (160,000km)
Even if you count the premature failures and that half of the above are still used with the original Clutch, it averages out at 90k miles (145,000km)m which isn't bad!!!
Well the car I sold with the lowest mileage was the mk3 golf and it was still on the original clutch (120000km/74600miles). Most were sold with over 160000km+ and always on the original clutch. I must admit that I do mostly highway driving.
