View Full Version : Quick Question about Amethyst 210 Conversion
Just a quick question, is the "Free Flow Cat Back Exhaust" on the Amethyst 210 conversion stainless steel?
Thanks,
Ben
""Milltek, perhaps not the best known exhaust manufacturer, but they produce very high quality stainless systems that actually fit! ""

Ben,
The exhaust on ya car (like mine) sure is stainless steel...from the cat back anyway!
Mine is still looking in top notch condition after 6 months of abuse!
Danny boy has cheekily stick a EBC V4 Greenstuff sticker on me back box too!!!

Well rip it off and give him a slap. He should have asked!
Cool, stainless as I hoped.
Talking of EBC Greenstuff, has anyone tried RedStuff? My mate is running them on his Golf and he says that they are better than the Greenstuff ones and they don't need warming up as some people claim. Apparently you should stay clear of the YellowStuff pads though as they really do not work until warmed up and so are only useful on a track!

Amazing how quiet and refined this exhaust is, I had a Milltek on my 16V which was a bit of a pain when you weren't in the mood - but on the 1.8T its that good it could be a factory system.
Would be nice if someone could develop an induction kit that doesn't mess up the 1.8Ts running - putting a bit of rortiness back into the equation.
Mines covered over 1250 miles now, so I'm starting to give it a bit of welly at long last. Coming along nicely, but I think it'll take until 5000 miles until its freed up properly, and also the suspension should gradually bed in so its more like my old 16V i.e. more settled and less skittish over minor bumps - I'm reluctant to spend almost a grand on PSS9s unless I really have to.
Brakes are now biting properly although I have managed to get them to fade after some fun coming down a Welsh mountain. It was after a long blat though with repeated braking on crests and corners, which combined with gravity on the steep downhill section would have tested any brakes severely.
Bill am I right in thinking you were saying the Pagids will sustain more abuse for longer than Greenstuffs? Is the actual stopping power increased or is it just that they will withstand higher temps before fading?
Got the Speedline 7x16s on now and the 205 width Goodyear F1 rubber grips very well - the TCS light barely flickers much in the dry as long as you feed in the power quite smoothly.
Ultimately if the suspension improves with a few k more miles (as a couple of people have told me it will, eh Flapper/Swinny?) I may plump for some of these new Tarox 6 pots instead - especially as they use the existing Tarox discs. The AP kit is simply awesome but its a lot of cash.

When you say 'existing tarox discs'.... do you mean standard fit? or the tarox discs you have put on..??
I am unaware of the make of the discs that come as standard on the beeza cupra..?? does anyone know what they are..??
As for the Pagids and Greenstuff.. The Pagids will last longer purely due to the fact that they are thicker.
They both are apparently good at stopping you, and have much less fade than the standard pads. However you get a thicker pad and it is obviously going to last longer init.. :)
How long do your discs usually last just out of interest..??
I aren't going to change mine now, but wondered when I can expect to change them? and I might upgrade to grooved or drilled at that point, although I believe grooved and drilled discs cause your pads to wear out quicker..??

When I said sustain abuse for longer I meant before they fade, not before they wear out totally.
Agreed both pads are an improvement over standard O.E. pads on fade resistance.
I have Tarox G88 grooved discs as part of Amethysts 210 package, I think the Tarox 6 pots might go on the standard SEAT discs as well (same diameter aren't they?) but not 100% sure.
They may need 17 inch wheels though to clear the bulkier calipers. Good excuse to upgrade ;)
On disc life, it depends on how hard they are used rather than mileage. My 16V discs (basically the same as the 1.8T by the way) were heavily worn after only 20k miles, and I upgraded to EBC Turbogroove/Greenstuff which worked pretty well. Seem to make more noise than the Tarox discs as the grooves are thicker.

Well yes and no.
Yes they are thicker so will obviously last longer wear for wear being equal, BUT they are more durable, so wear a lot slower than EBC's.
From my experience... 2K miles and killed my EBC's and an entire track season on Pagids and I only killed them just recently..
EBC's are hyped. There are alternatives which perform better.
