View Full Version : Engine stutter at 4000rpm in 3rd and 4th gear

Hello,
I have a Leon Sport 20VT that I bought second hand 8 months ago (best move I ever made).

My problem is that the car seems to stutter at about 4-5000rpm in 3rd and 4th gears, but only if you accelerate hard, if you accelerate slowly the car is smooth right up to the red line.

My local dealer say this is the 3rd car they've had in with the same problem, but they don't know what's wrong with it. They spent some time replacing various ignition parts but couldn't fix it. The Seat technical rep they called didn't know what was wrong with it and had never heard of the problem.

I was wondering if anyone out there had experienced this problem and what they did to fix it.

Thanks,
Steve

Suggestions (from memory) on this to date are: MAF or Dump Valve leakage.

MIne does exactly what you describe, but only intermittantly.

Though i cant rule out the MAF sensor, Amethyst had the car recently and didnt seem to think there was a problem with my MAF.

The Dump Valve is not an issue on my car either as i have a Forge DV006 replacement, unless of course the replacement is faulty ;)

Im more inclined to go with another theory floating about, which may be that the Turbo's Actuator could be at fault, but its a known problem amongst several Leon owners, but so far its a bit of a mystery. :(

Im pressing to try and get some answers, hopefully someone will get to the bottom of it.

As a matter of interest your not running any form of aftermarket alarm system if so what make is it.

Not that in mine or the opinion of one of the countrys most respected ICE installer this makes any difference, but RSD believe that the Clifford Alarm system can interfere with the Leons ECU. Welll thats what the've told me, taken that with a pinch of salt though. :p

Had so many theorys regarding what this could or could not be, im more confused now than i was 6 months ago :)

Thanks for your responses.

My car is totally stock, stock alarm and immmobiliser, stock dump valve etc.

Given that this seems to be a common problem (three in this area alone) and I consider the car dangerous (overtaking a truck expecting the car to accelerate smoothly past it, imagine my surprise when the car started to sputter and slow down as the oncoming traffic loomed) what are our options with Seat?

Cheers,
Steve

I had something similar with a Citroen ZX 16 Valve many years ago. The dealer said they could find nothing wrong. At a 2nd dealer, the mechanic stuck with it and found that 3 of the 4 coils were breaking down but intermittently. He replaced all 4 under warranty and I had no more problems.
