View Full Version : my key to 600bhp !!

Finally I recieved my new 1300cc injectors, which together with my 2 x 255lph Holley fuel pumps, will allow me to reach my 600bhp target at high boost levels. I was currently doing 420bhp @just 16psi, but I was on the limit of injector duty-I was using 880cc with 95% duty cycle. Now we estimate to rum 28-30psi boost which will take us up high on figures, and hopefully lower the seconds on the time slip !!

I just wish to beat an Mitsu Evo IV which is running 10.2's at the moment, all the others such as cossies etc are history now ! I have a pair of 26" M&H cheaters to try and launch well, since mine is a front wheeler so far.

how much money have you spent on that lump?

Sound a very interesting project. Can you give us any info on what work has been done to the engine and car or would you rather keep that sort of thing private for a while. :)

10.2's on the 1/4 mile?
That kinda means the Evo is running in excess of 700-800bhp.
If yours is a Front wheeler...even with 600bhp you will not get close to that 10.2 time.
In fact I'll be amazed if you can get into the 10's or 11's.

HCS turbo ?
its running externally gated wastegate.
Not a chance of a 10.2 1/4 mile in a fwd car i dont think.
Well not on a UK drag strip anyway.
The yank drag strips seem to give good figures but even the quickest FWD cars in the UK are only managing high 10's and 11's. (TOTB event)

TOTB have to run street legal tyres as far as I know.
pukka drag slicks is a different deal completely.
16v turbo
I was going to say is that an ABF.... cool beans

Sorry for the delay, but I could not log in earlier today ! I already ran 11.8seconds with 350bhp @ 121mph with 2.0sec 60ft on bfgoodrich dragradials, so I'm very confident that with more than another 200bhp and a set of good tires i can chop off a full second or more. There is a honda Civic here that ran 11.0 flat, just today at a local event, so i don't think it's impossible to do better than that. The Evo running 10.2's was dynoed 623bhp @ 37psi boost from a 60-1 turbo.

My turbo is a full size Turbonetics T61 with stage 5 exhaust housing and 0.8A/R. Boost is controlled via a 48mm Turbosmart external wastegate. I have a Raptor blowoffvalve. The block is 2E, sleeved with special neumonic cylinders, Wiseco 83mm 8.5:1 pistons, Pauter chromoly 159mm rods, ARP hardware all-round.The crank was knife edged, lightened and balanced. The intake plenum is custom, high volume, with individual internal bell mouths per port, 72mm throttle. Custom s/s exhaust highflow manifold. The head is ABF, extensive head porting , chambers reshaped and gasflowed to 142cfm @10"H2O. New hightemperature valve seats, 2mm oversize to accomodate 34mm intake s/s, and 30mm exhaust inconel valves. The valves have just 5.5mm stems, for increased port airflow and weight reasons. New 5.5mm guides, titanium retainers, HP double springs, and viton seals. Cams are from KR stock so far. i will change those when I switch to solid lifters. Highflow intercooler, DTA S60 ecu, water injection, electric Mezerie water pump, uprated oil pump, wasted spark ignition, 9mm Taylor ht leads. I have 2 x Holley 255litre/hour fuel pumps in my surge tank, which pass fuel through a highflow Aeromotive filter, and finally I have a set of 1300cc high impedance injectors. Drivetrain- 6spd dogbox with sequential shifter, 228mm custom 600lbft cerametallic 6 puck clutch, aluminium flywheel, and stage 5 driveshaftshop.com axles. The M&H cheater tires are DOT certified so they are "street legal". one last little detail, I chopped off 180kgs from my car since the body is all made of carbon fibre !! Drysump and new cams are on my wish list

Aha.. my seqshift was mated to a rather nasty quaife dog box... should have gone with petr's gears but they were too short geared for my use tho at the time. Seqshift worked ok, but did become a pain in the neck. H pattern these days again on B&M shifter and its a faster change.
How are you finding the S60 as this is on my list of things to move to I think on my 20vt
launch control, traction control etc etc all built in, switchable maps....
Top motor friend. :worship:
so you like the sqs gears then ? certainly a good price
ibiza600
19-03-2007, 21:14
I found SQS gears very good, quite noisy gearbox but very pleasant I must add. It so noisy that I must scream to the one sitting near me to communicate !! But gearshifting is perfect, even rev dropping is very low, so it keeps boost and power up high gear after gear.
ibiza600
19-03-2007, 21:19
The DTA S60 is quite new, but very easy and user friendly. It has all the EXP48 features, and includes new ones such as antilag, traction control and boost control. I use antilag, although I have to practice more on the line, and am getting familiar with the boost contol, which I'm going to use multiple solenoids with that. Just make sure that you buy the latest available, just becuase they keep on improving the software , so the fresher the better

The skys the limit on 20vt, more from largeport cylinder head, depends on which one you got.
My own motor is 83mm bore stock crank (race regs), largeport cyl head, supertech valves, springs, Ti retainers etc etc etc
Depending on how you want your power served up, it should be as comparible to 16v turbo, with whatever sized turbo you wish for delivery as well as qty.
Awesome spec of car but the styling of bodywork is utter gash.

Hi all !! Many thanks for your comments, I'm happy that you like my motor, to be honest it costed me as how much my house did !!
For those who visit our sunny island, the drag strip is in a place called Halfar, brit chicks are most welcome too..... :D
I am running 3.0 1st, 2.286 2nd, 1.764 3rd, 1.474 4th, 1.238 5th, 1.043 6th, 3.5 final drive.
I am redoing my rear bumper, some did say it looks a bit weird but I had to sacrifice beauty for aerodynamics !! I'll try to find a compromise for both !

Make sure you have a dump once you have your 600hp! Will knock a millisecond or so off your 1/4 time and reduce the likelihood of you shxtting yourself too!
That turbo looks evil! And the knife edged crank looks top knotch a lot of work in there! You need a perpex sump to watch that thing!
Nice one!

Hi guys, just an update of what happened recently. I dynoed the car and raised the boost to 1.3bar, we achieved 462bhp@8150rpm with 2% advance compensation. It was all for the day as the coil had enough, and needs an MSD ignition amplifier to make things more interesting since we have not got enough spark to burn all that fuel at higher boost levels. Just for the record, we're running 100% unleaded pump gas so far !! The MSD comes next week, so more nice figures coming. By the way I ran 11.12secs @ 128mph and 1.92 60ft with BF Goodrich drag radials, things are looking good............

Many thanks for your comments, I do my best to make all SEAT's owners proud !! Hopefully I'll soon post some short vids of the car in action at our local strip. I must admit that with street radials(on normal saturdays and sundays) the car suffers a lot to launch, but when it grips, oh I can't explain the feeling. Most of the times, especially when driving against a 4x4 Evo or cossie, they leave 3 cars ahead of me, maybe more, but when it grips I make them cry. I have two major rivals here, a 600bhp+ evo 4, and a ???bhp escort cossie 4x4. I said ???bhp just because they usually run with 45psi, even more, and blow a block on very weekend !! But unless I'm running slicks I don't race them standstill cos with all that power it would be hard to reach them up the top. They've done 10.4(evo) and 10.6(escort) so far, but I'm not scared of them, as they say, mine is just an Ibiza :) !!!!
