View Full Version : Upsolute upgrade part 2
New thread to continue this chat about the upgrade on cos as others have commented its a bit long!
I will be getting before and after dyno results cos i am gonna put my original chip back in to get the results,so you will see the difference!,
And i am at home fitting my boost gauge at the moment so i will be able to give results of what sort of boost it is running in standard and upsoluted form tomorrow too:D
The remote switching upgrade isnt available yet as Mik said, they did design it but the remote only worked from outside the car and they wanted you to be able to change power from inside whilst driving!, so they are redesigning it at the moment,
If i did decide to get the remote, they only charge the difference in price between the two plus £20 for fitting which is very reasonable!
A "real" before and after within a tight time window....that's the stuff Mosser!
For those who don't know ~ even without the "switchable" option, you are provided with a copy of your OEM map, so you can switch back to standard (by removing ECU and swapping chip) at will.
I anticpate interest may rise after your experiences.
By the way, my mate is developing a new shampoo. Can he pop round and drip some in your eyes....? ;)
Someone else from this forum is getting it done tomorrow that has tried a superchip, ottinger chip and is now switching to an upsolute chip, not sure who it is though, looks like the rr sessions are gonna be at the same time!
Also i was told that the kkk03 turbo's are fairly bomb proof due to the use of ceramic bearings (not 360) and the turbo is also watercooled!!

Ceramic bearings?
That would be nice....
Can this be confirmed?

I can't wait to get mine done - anyone had it fitted on a car with low mileage?
Fastshow ~ you can remap from new, but they recommend you run it in first.
Actually, they mostly recommend you wait 'til you gets your car.... :D
Makes sense to wait 'til after the 1st 1000miles ~ if anything is initially "amiss" you can get it sorted under warranty without any hassle.

It's nice to see these powerful cars in the hands of such sane people :D
Hey Mosser.....this thread's getting a bit long.....
I know!!, just come in from fitting my boost gauge to find 14 messages in it!, blimey
I would have liked to have dropped in cupraman but i dont think i am gonna get time as i have to pick my wife up from reading at 6pm tomorrow:mad: , but if you wanna drop by impossible power and see the rr session feel free!, i expect to be there between 2:30 and 4:30 tomorrow,
If not i will try and get down to the next track day to see how my car comares to others and meet some people from here!
Back from my dyno test now and it hasnt gone too well:mad: ,
to start with i couldnt find any optimax petrol stations around so had to fill up with esso super unleaded:confused:
Then i forgot to take my standard ecu chip with me so i couldnt get a standard dyno done,
And the dyno i used had trouble coping with the sheer amount of power my car produces!!, testing couldnt be done in 3rd gear cos it punched off the scale!!
But a fourth gear run gave 210.8 bhp which inst too bad,
If i had been able to run it on optimax i should have got about 6bhp more, and if the test could have been done in 3rd gear it would have been worth about another 2bhp, so the real result should have been nearer 218.8bhp,
I am gonna try and find another dyno station near me and get a proper before and after dyno plot on optimax, and when i do i will let everyone know
the boost hikes upto 15psi at 1850 rpm and stays constant till 4,500 then slowly tails off till to 12psi at 6750rpm which is where my rev limiter is at
Should have called me mate. I know all the Optimax stations round the area.
Cheers cupraman, i have just added your number to my phone and will give you a ring if i'm down our way again
Try Power Engineering in Uxbridge. I organised a TT/S3 dyno day there, so a couple of fwd 180's were run as a reference.
The TT boys are having another big day there on the 10th. Worth seeing if you can run on their 2wd dyno at the sae time.
Jonathan
Cheers i will see if i can, if not i will pop along myself in the week and get it done!
Guys guys guys....
All this talk about Upsolute chips, I'm foaming at the mouth...
Must have one...........
Have found the .com upsolute web-site but what's the url for the
uk distributor or contact details?
Can anyone explain why this chip can churn out such a massive hike in power, when all the rest seem to muster aprox 195bhp.
Can the engine take the extra psi ? Just wondered why Audi didn't just tune there chip to this spec instead of fitting an extra intercooler in the S3...
Cheers guys
www.impossible-performance.cwc.net
Say I sent you :)
The engine can definitly take the extra power!!, after all if you fit a kkk04 turbo and get 250Bhp with no other modifications (other that the upsolute chip of course!), then the engine can easily take the 15psi from the kkk03!,
It is worth considering a larger intercooler to go with the chip, i am looking at getting a front mounted one on my car cos i wanna take the power even further!, i am gonna get a kkk04 in about 6 months time i think, thats how long it should take to get bored with the power i now have and need more to play with!
I can see that the engine itself would be unharmed by the upsolute chip but can the standard turbo take the extra boost though or will it lead to premature turbo failure or failure of other parts due to stress?
The upsolute chip sounds a little bit too good to be true. Its all well getting all that extra power with just a chip but forgive me if I'm wrong, but surely Oettinger, RSD, and superchips (and Audi for the S3) could produce a chip with the same power but have chosen not to for possible good reasons.
Don't get me wrong though! I would love to get the upsolute conversion done and will do if my mind is put at rest over these niggles. Any feedback appreciated!
Robbo
The upsolute remap does mean you have to take more care of your turbo than the others, but if you wait till the engine is fully warmed up before really using the power and when you stop give the turbo a minute or 2 to cool properly you shouldnt have any problems, the other chipping companies are just building in a bigger safeguard against you not treating your turbo properly
I am actually not looking after my turbo properly cos i want mine to fail sometime in the mear future!, then it will give me an excuse to upgrade to a kkk04:D ,
But if my luck is anything like my last 2 cars then the turbo will outlast the engine  and i wont have an excese to change it,
I am putting about 1000-1500 miles on my car per week so will be able to tell you how long they last probably quicker than most people once they are chipped!

How much to get the '04 turbo fully installed?
Give the bod at impossible performance a ring, but i think he said the turbo itself is about £1300!, you could have a hybrid t3/4 for that price but they arent as high quality as the kkk series although you would be getting about 250Bhp with a chip on the hybrid
Mosser, congrats on your upgrade :D
Have you had any problems with 'surging'? I know upsolute had probs early in the year with MY2001 Golfs etc but hopefully they've sorted it...
Cheers, I am really enjoying it:D ,
I havent had any surging problems at all, in fact the car is much smoother to drive now than before i had the upgrade done!
Cheers for the feedback Mosser! :)
That's all I needed to know - I was originally thinking of getting a Superchips conversion but not any more! I always wait until the engine is fully warmed up before booting it anyway so it shouldn't be a problem and also leave it to idle for a bit after a hard drive .
I just hope they announce where the northern supplier of upsolute upgrades is going to be soon.
Just one other thing though - how has it effected your insurance cost ?
Cheers,
Robbo.
If you can do without you car for about 3 days then you could post your ecu down to him and he will send it back to you, you dont need the rolling road tuning session, mine didnt need anything doing and i suspect all leons will be set up properly without any change, also it means the upgrade will be £40 cheaper without the rr session!,
It hasnt affected my insurance at all because i have an any driver any vehicle as long as it isnt hired to me policy so i could be driving a ferrari and pay nothing extra!!
Just to confirm what Mosser said ~ you can get upgrade via post if you prefer.
Call Impossible Performance to let them know you are sending ECU.
Remove ECU (10mins) and send before 12:00 using Parcelforce. Guaranteed next day delivery before 12:00, fully insured up to a value of £2K total cost approx £12 (!).
Impossible receive and perform remap. Send back to you with your original chip to replace as and when you fancy.
Receive ECU ~ plug back in (5-10mins), drive, smile.
Whole process should take 3 days max - 2 if you are lucky. Total cost inc return packaging is just under £245 with your Seatcupra.net discount (pass thanks to Lee). You don't get rolling road, but you don't need it.
Cheers for the info lads :)
Unfortunately I wouldn't be able to do without my ECU for 3 days as I use it for work 6 days a week and there is no alternate transport to get to work.
I wan't to get 10k miles on the clock first and get my first service out the way which should be another few months so hopefully the northern supplier of upsolute should be open by then.
Mosser - forgot to ask what is the fuel consumption like now?
Also - what you were saying about front tyre wear now you've had your conversion - a mate of mine has got a Fiat Coupe 20 Valve Turbo and the average life of his front tyres is only 12-15 k miles!!

I meant to ask this a while back, but forgot:
How's the torque steer on the Leon when you boot it now you have it Upsoluted?
Someone mentioned a while back it was fine, but they had ESP which I won't, so I wondered how it felt?
Fuel consumtion is totally unaffected, i have put quite a few tank fulls through my car now and it is exactly the same as before!!, its like all this power is free!!:D
Tyre wear fir me, because of my huge motorway miles is very good anyway, i got 30,000 on the last set of fronts and i will be getting about the same on my s03's this time but i recon i will get about 20,000 on my next set cos this amount of power is really brutal on the front tyres,
Torque steer is definatly worse, under full power you really do need to have both hands gripping the wheel properly ovherwise you will be off the road very quickly!, but with that much power i expected it really and i dont have aproblem with it at all!!, i find myself entering corners just a little too fast now cos its sooo easy to be doing 120 without even trying,
i dont have ESP either and although i would like it i am used to this car now and it is easy enough to control, i know its limint now even though this power upgrade has redefined the limits of the car!!

Mosser,
Just out of interest did yours suffer from any torque steer before the upgrade? The Leon I test drove originally was all over the place but mine always pulls dead straight no matter what you do in the dry. Obviously in the wet it gets a bit caried away but thats to be expected.:P
Bigger wheels are supposed to help eliminate torque steer a bit aren't they??
So I can imagine Torque steer on an upsoluted car with standard size wheels with no ESP would be pretty well - bad! - to say the least!!
As far as torque steer is concerned ESP won't make a blind bit of difference. ESP is designed to stabalise a car when it starts to swing out, it does this by braking the appropriate wheel, can't see how this would affect torque steer.
I would have thought that torque steer is best handled by the electronic differential lock.

You must be dead lucky. FWD and traction do not go together if you're trying. I'd love to have my Cupra chipped, but not sure if it's a good idea from that point of view.
