Sorry to bother you guys.
Just got a cupra r  and have been looking exhaustively for a DECENT insurance quote.
I am currently insured with a company called hy-performance and have been quoted £1000 :-o for fully comp insurance with NO mods except tinted windows.
I have probably spent about £40-£50 :banghead2 on phone calls searching for a better quote, but have had no joy!
I have been getting quoted between £1000-£2200:confused:
I am 26 years old have 1YNCB and 6 points for SP30 offences.
I live in a very low crime risk area and am baffled as to why the price is so high.
I tried Greenlight as they were highly recommended, but unfortunately the are not willing to quote me.
Just wanted to ask if anyone knew of any other similar insurance companies/brokers that are known for giving a good quote.
I have tried most of the mainstream insurers e.g. Direct line, Tesco, Norwich Union etc..
And also a large array of others such as A-quote, ensliegh, Academy, ******.
Any help would be much appreiciated.
Cheers
1 Year NCB in itself is the reason why its high, A Cupra R is a group 17/18 Car.
Have you only been driving for 1 year ?
6 points doesnt help you either.
Try including your Mother as an additional driver, try for an increased excess, A

did you get a reason why greenlight did not offer cover?
i understand they do not cover some postcodes due to claims history.
if this is the case here, then this would apear to indicate its not a low crime area.
('low crime areas' are often high for car crime!)
id also echo the query about the NCB, is it 1 year do to time driving, or due to an accident?
if its time driving them your not experienced. (and racked up points pretty damm quickly)
if its due to an accident then along with the points you are a high risk.
however, try:
admiral,
adrian flux,
sainburys, honestly.

Hi,
Had my license for over 8 years.
I was insured under my father's name whilst at Uni as I did not drive that much.
I realise that the quotes I will receive are going to be high, but thought £750-£850 would be the tops.
Looks like I may have to stick with my insurance and leave the remap til next year

Admiral / Elephant (basically the same company) are usually very good. Over £200 cheaper for me and the missus this year. Plus you can haggle with them!

I entered details into the greenlight website bout 2 months ago but put in a different name and phone number. I received a quote for £765.
I then got in touch with them a few weeks ago and gave them my CORRECT details and they got back to me saying that they are unable to offer a quote as they are suspicious about the differing details that had been entered.
I have held my license for 8 years, had my own vehicle for 3 years and have never claimed before.
I was driving my dad's volvo S60 T5 for 3 years and my Rover 25 gti for 3 years.
The volvo was £600 as a NAMED driver and the Rover was £850 as the MAIN driver for my 1st year. This went down to £500 last year (my renewal is due in MAY 07) hence the 1YNCB.
So I feel that I definately have enough driving experience.
My postcode is in a VERY LOW risk area according to the insures and in the 8 years I have stayed there, no one has ever had their car broken into or stolen.
Tried:
admiral - £1250
adrian flux -£1000 - Currently insured with hyperformance (part of adrian flux)
sainburys - £1200

Cheers,
Just tried them:
CIS:
Initial Deposit* £ 335.14
10 Further Payments £ 178.43
Credit charges (APR 14.9%) £ 108.90
Total £ 2119.44
WTF   :-o
I DONT THINK SO!

so, you have driven a car for 3 years at a named driver...
then had 3 years on your rover at main driver... and the renewal is in may.
two things,
one: why not wait till may before moving insurance, - can you ammend policy to new car.
two: why only one years no claims? lots now offer NCB if you have been named driver, and as regards the rover, even if the renewal is may, you would have at least 2 years no claims...???
Greenlight are represented on this forum, Neil is their Contact, get in touch with him and im sure he will sort you out.

Hi Mate
As the customer input the quote under a different name twice with varying details our insurers don't want to offer a quote.
It seems suspicious why someone would use a false name when applying for insuranc quotes so we would rather not provide a figure.
Best Regards
Neil

Eventhough I am in the wrong:
I am sure I am not the first person who has done this?
Just look on some of the forums and you can see this!
Do I really want 20 companies calling me and sending me junk mail?
With regards to varying details, not sure what you are referring to? Enquired about different vehicles as I had not yet purchased one. I changed my name once, and entered an incorrect phone number, but all other details should have been correct.
A quote was given after my first application of £765.
If you are suspicious, surely when I forward you all the required documents, you will be able to make sure that I am not being fraudulent.
Anyway,
Thanks for the reply and hope something could be sorted out in the future.
Cheers,

Hey,
Sorry. I was insured under my dad's name for the 1st year of driving my Rover.
So that's why I have only got the 1YNCB.

Try confused.com .You only need to enter details once and it compares with a panel of 20 plus insurers. I'm sure one of them will quote you. It's certainly allowed me to barter my existing insurer down to match the best quote for the past couple of years. Good luck.

As per previous comment, i used to use Elephant when my car was mildly modified, but it is now too modified for their policy, whoop.
I found their quotes to be very reasonable. I was in a slightly dodgy area, no 'no claims', had 12 points declared, under 25 and all mods declared for MUCH less than everyone else.
The thing with insurance is what is great for one person may be shockingly bad for someone else. Worth a try maybe.
Also, ring adrian flux quote line because they will re-look over ALL their policies, Hy Performance may have been best for your old car, but not necessarily for the new one???

finding insurance is a pain in the ass. But as has been said, the LCR is a high grouped car, and you are a young driver (relatively!) with 1yr ncb and 6 points.
I know its a bit late now, but did you not check all this out before your decided to buy it?
hope you have more luck soon, can imagine your gutted at the cost.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I realised that the Cupra R would have reasonably high insurance quotes but over £1500 is really taking the p***.
Got a GOOD quote from Greenlight - A quote was given after my first application of £765. - But as you can see from above, they are unwilling to quote me again
I am currently paying £950, so it doesn't seem to bad in comparison to the £1500-£2000 that I have been getting quoted.
The main reason I wanted to go with Greenlight is that they offer very good prices for mods on the car and I think that and engine remap would definatley be on the agenda then.
Cheers,
I see you've already tried them via confused.com, but I'm with Quinn Direct. 24, 2 accident claims, 6 years experience, 2 years NCB, 3 points (SP30) on a Cupra TDI (group 13?) was £950.
The only quote I could get cheaper was via Swinton with a company called Markerstudy (£885), but when I came to buy it Swinton said they had taken Markerstudy off their list of insurers due to having problems with them. Quinn were the next cheapest so I went with them.
You might also try www.insuresupermarket.com who offer a similar service to Confused. I don't know if they actually check more companies, but they seem to check a different subset of companies so there may be some on there which Confused hasn't tried.

---------???????????
Your'e not the only one whose confused. In your first post you said no mods apart from window tints, and hoping to remap in the future.
Your now saying you tried Confused.com but asked for a quote with a remap.
If so are you really surprised no one will quote you happy?????
You are young, inexperienced, have 2 convictions and an already quick car, and you dick around with insurance quotes.
Wake up and smell the coffee, you are in no position to insure a remapped car at a viable price. Get some years under your belt then think again or join the ranks of the uninsured numpties and we'll see you in court.
