I've been reading lots of posts here ( I feel old as I've had my Leon for 8 months and everyone is getting new ones) and am intrigued by the upsolute chip business.

Can someone explain in simple terms (I have a small brain) what this chip does?
What else I would need to change (types, brakes etc.)?
How it affects my insurance and whether being able to switch between the upsolute and standard chip helps in any way?
And most importantly, how much fun it is now.

Cheers,
Steve

Go to www.upsolute.com for details

It's a chip remap, so it alters fueling / boost parameters to take you to 212bhp and 217lbs.ft torque (from memory).

It's not such a huge upgrade that the brakes etc won't be able to cope (20VT has same brakes as Euro 2.8V6 with 204bhp...and it's not as heavy as the 2.8).

Upsolute are a well respected tuner in Europe and USA....few folks here had heard about them. You could get upgraded by sending away yer ECU....but most peeps were (understandably) nervous about this, and the fact that support was so far away if you hit any problems.

Excitement now that first UK distributor has been announced, 'cos the "value for money" is excellent. More distributors to follow over the next few months......

Any mod will affect your insurance and warranty, but the remap is invisible to VAG 1551 diagnostics ~ returns the same "no load" test data. I expect most garages will spot it if they drive the car....but you can plug your std map copy back in before you go back to the dealer if you have a problem though.

And on the how much fun side of things, It is far more fun to drive!!, my car is 11 months old now (MY01 spec) and has 50,000 miles on the clock and it doing really well,

I would say that fitting this chip is the best thing i have ever done for the car, but i know the tyres are gonna suffer for it!
