And it's all that nasty mik bloke's fault for mentioning Motorpoint!
OK, the situation is this:
I've paid a deposit on a 'Metallic Black' Leon Cupra for £13,299. It turned out not to be metallic black, but plain old Ebony black so a bit of a rebate on the price should hopefully be forthcoming. It also appears to be a MY01 model as opposed to 02.
But....
mik helpfully pointed out (git) that Motorpoint have some Imperial Blue Leons in at £13,499 including full leather. It seems like a cracking price, the only problem being that the cars are registered in Motorpoint's name to bring them to the UK. I'd therefore be second owner. The guy seems fairly sure they're MY02's too (to be confirmed though).
So....
What do I do? There are pros and cons of both, but I've heard lots of reports of the black being very difficult to clean, showing chips very badly etc.... (and I really had my heart set on metallic black anyway). I'm also not overly keen on being down as second owner for both insurance and resale purposes.
All suggestions greatly received. :)
I'm biting my tongue.
 :)

On the second owner / resale point - I would suggest that if someone is sensible enough to accept that an import is worth buying, they will also be sensible enough to understand why you are the second owner.
Now, if the first owner was a dealer and it had been used as a demo car, I would be a little bit more wary. Presumably the motorpoint cars have sensible mileage on (<15) and this will be noted on the invoice?

Just spoken to Motorpoint and the Blue one w/leather from Motorpoint doesn't have an alarm whereas the black one does.
Decisions, decisions.
Do you reckon you could recover your deposit on your order anyway? Isn't it due for delivery soon?
Black is black (I want my baby back) ~ it shows up the dirt, but non-metallic is no harder to keep clean than metallic.
And Ebony looks feggin spanky.....didn't you see the pix of my car?
It will show any chips more than a metallic, but it'll be easier to touch-up and get a good match. But then if you smother it with a few layers of top grade caranuaba wax.....it's nicely protected....and when you look into it you see someone that looks like you, but they are obviously immersed in a deep dark well. Spooky.....like Halloween. ;)
I'd have had no hesitations using Motorpoint if a 3-4 month wait had not actually suited me.

What's "caranuaba wax" and where can you buy it? Pardon my ignorance.

Still, I might just stick with it - I know black looks the nuts, I'm just worried about having to clean the fecking thing all the time.

Yeah Mosser ~ what is it?
Ok I'll answer....... ;)
Carnuaba wax is the hardest wax known to man ~ 100% natural. Unlike all the traditional polishes you buy, it has no abrasive properties whatsoever ~ it simply protects your paint with a completely clear wax coating. Ideal for a brand new car ~ on an older car you need to polish any blemishes out first, then apply. It's the business.
One coat lasts upto 6 months (genuine ~ unlike some polishses that quote this but appear to have dissapeared after two).
Mark Underwood (the Wax Wizard) makes up his own stuff. The Scoobynet community rave about it BIG TIME. It's not cheap however.......£35 for a little pot of the basic wax, rising to over £120 for his best stuff. You use very little on each application though....so it is at least good value
I'm much too tight for this, so bought some "Mothers Pure Carnauba Wax - phase 3" from USA. It also uses "pure #1 grade carnauba".....really pure stuff. Much bigger tin for much less money.....didn't save as much as I thought though 'cos customs stopped it (probably thought it was a bomb) and charged me duty. Still much cheaper though. www.mothers.com
It's almost certainly not as good as Wax Wizard stuff, but suits my needs and creates a fabulous deep shine that water and dirt just "slips off". Very easy to apply ~ did the wife's Ka in 45 mins including alloys......
I've subsequently heard of a UK source that is even cheaper ~ will go and look for the info and post back.
Heres a link to the info

You will NOT regret purchasing some pure Carnuaba....
(bonus ~ as it polishes off completely clear, you need not worry about getting any on plastic trim etc).

Heh, right, I've just managed to wangle a free alarm out of the Motorpoint guys so I've gone with the blue one w/leather. Dilemma over. :)
You are guilty of compulsive compulsion disorder
Good luck recovering your deposit......keep us posted!
Might be worth sending Lee (ovniyellow) a private message / email.......he might consider an Ebony Black car.......????

Thanks Mik
I'll look into the wax whilst the car's paint's still new. I remember reading things on Scoobynet, but didn't realise it was the same stuff.
Cheers

Hi Mik and all,
Speaking of waxes . . . I've ordered Mark Underwood's stuff, and I'm waiting to apply it on - Will report when time has come.
Any of you know of a good on-line shop in the UK for car care products - I need a bunch of things and with reasonable prices and shipping rates to Israel.Any American site I've tryed(about a dozen or thereabouts) wanted dear prices for shipping - at times double the amount of the products total sum.
so, thanks for any advice given on the subject
Cheers
Noam.

FastShow,
I ordered a Imperial Blue Cupra from Motorpoint at the start of October, and am expecting delivery in two weeks. Could you please tell me who it was you spoke to at Motorpoint and how the hell you managed to get them to throw in an alarm aswell?!?
I'm very pissed off!!!(and jealous...):)
Thanks alot mate, and hope you enjoy your new car when it comes as much as i will.
I can never be bothered to clean my car, let alone polish it!!, i had never heard of caranauba wax before, although i did once polish my car with halfords wax!!, my wheels are currently black cos of the brake dust on them! and the car isnt much cleaner either!
mik, i have been reading your post regarding "mothers"wax ,any news on the uk source? i read the same good reports on the audi site last year thanks ,tony
Tony ~ There is a UK source (will look for the link....but they are more expensive than the DIY option). I got some sent direct from USA, but if I'd seen the link I posted regarding "honeywax" I wouldn't have bothered. Took 7 weeks to arrive (came day before I picked my car up though ;) ).
It really is very easy to use ~ seeing how much I've gone though it will last me ages .....and the finish is superb.
I like the idea that it's not abrasive ~ ideal for new paint
I'd recommend you try the "honeywax" though.
(Or if you feel really flush ~ Mark Underwood is you man. I'm sure he'll tell you why his stuff is better, and equally sure it won't be bullsh1t. Cheaper stuff suits my needs though....'cos like I said...I'm too tight :D )
mik, could you point me in the right direction for the "honey wax" ta
Apart from the one I posted about 10 replies ago in this thread?
Click on the scoobynet link ~ details are in there.:p
