View Full Version : Strut braces
A mate has one on his impreza and swears it makes all the difference so I'm now looking for one for my Leon R. I've looked through various magazines and haven't found one yet so could the fellow members suggest where I might find one. Also are they as good as my mate claims or is he just trying to catch the moths that he says are in my wallet.
Many thanks
i presume a leon cupra one will fit (or you could just get a universal fit one). try the likes of omp, sparco, etech, momo, from DT and the other suppliers in our discount section and on the main site.
How about getting from the Audi TT?
I know Audi TT has one for the front and it fit perfectly on Toledo / Leon.
It may not be a looker but it definitely serves well.
:D
I think a strut brace is a good investment, but the amount of difference it makes depends on the car. I've installed one in every car I've had (except the toledo), and IMO it made much more difference in the older car's I owned (especially the VW scirocco). Not as much in the newer ones.

Probably mostly to do with the fact that a Scirocco (like the mk1 Golf upon which it was based) has no front subframe - top and bottom braces in this case are required.
Strut braces stop (or at least limit) the shell from flexing. Tying up the front end nice and tight like this gives the suspension a solid foundation to work from. It's got to make sense...

Now that you mention it, yes the car needed/had both upper & lower braces due to lack of a subframe.
I had a peculiar problem on that car that was solved after adding the braces. The car was about 3 yrs old at the time. Went in for a wheel alignment, and the guy's at the shop was having a hard time getting car aligned. Ended up being the struct tower being in about 2cm. Was told that it was due to lower sport suspension + 15" wheels + rough road we have in New York state. After installing braces never had the problem again.
i have just bought an upper and lower brace today, will be fitting them in the morning.:D
will the mk3 ibiza strut brace fit on the mk 2 ibiza. (the momo one from seat)

if the mk3 uses the same suspension then the mk2 should fit. personally, and not from experience, I don't think you will notice any real day to day difference with it on, especially if you have the upper brace or unless you drive like a maniac everywhere. still if you're looking for ultimate poise even if it only give you the tiniest % increase it's worth chucking £30 at.
the lower one should fit fine, though i'm sure the top one won't as the turret design is different

Now I come to think about it, mk2 Scirocco 16v had an OE front lower strut brace...
front lower was 17.15 from tweeks(10%orf)
front upper was 42.08 " "
upper one is alloy and silver but there is a cheaper steel option but it clashes with my car(did i sound like dale winton then):D
