View Full Version : What the Hell is going on with Insuring a Leon Cupra?

My mate has just got him self a Subaru Impreza Turbo 2000 4WD with no mods (at the moment  ) and he told me that he got a really good deal. with ecars www.ecarinsurance.co.uk

He's 24, 3 years no claims. = £700

So he said for me to try them.... ;)

So i put in my details
24
6 years no claims
no Mods

And got £736.05 :censored:

So WTF! I’ll have the 4x4 car with 214Bhp compared to my 180Bhp and pay less???

Can any one enlighten me to why us Leon owners have to pay more? Is it that Cupra drivers drive more heavy footed to keep up with the Imprezas [B)]

So on that note can any one recommend any insurance that will beat my current price of £470.

I am also looking to start modding soon so an insurance that don’t mind mods or are cheap would be nice.

Mods looking to get = DV, Induction kit, Revo.

Thanks for the help guys :D

It'll still be a different postcode and probably different crime rating zone. That'd be what I put it down to

Talk to Greenlight...have just done mine @ £457, with Forge DV / BlueFlame / Raid Maxflow.

Plus they do a policy that has FREE remap cover, if you don't have it already, they'll only charge £25 to add it mid-term.

Malice... Try Greenlight. I'm a year younger than you, have 3 years NCB compared to your 6 and have a 56 day ban for SP60 and I drive a Cupra R. I pay.... £14 more than you! Yup, £750 with a £250 (or is it £300?) excess :)

Are they an actual insurance company or a broker, like the AA or RAC?

You will find that brokers buy bulk policies for certain makes of cars and receive massive discounts for say, 10,000 policies. Then they pass on the savings to the customer.

Ever tried confused.com and wondered why one company you've never heard of offers a cheaper policy than say, Norwich Union, but is actually underwritten by Norwich Union?!

One of the lads at work insured his Volvo S60 with a company he'd not heard of, as they were over £100 cheaper than his Cornhill renewal quote. When he got his paperwork through, his policy was underwritten by Cornhill!

If they are a company specialising in performance car insurance, they've probably bought a shed load of policies for Scooby's & Evo's etc. and can afford to pass on more of a saving to the customer.

lol currently on my mums insurance for my leon cupra ( 3rd party only :S ) was thinking about gettin fully comp and well , just tried ecar insurance (link above)

im 23 , and have just acquired 3 points for going through a !amber! light ( well awaiting court date, no doubt gonna get the 3 points for it though )

anyway, 23 + liverpool + leon cupra = £15171.56 ( yes , thats fifteen thousand!!! ) even without the 3 points the insurance was £4700 something , god i hate liverpool :( )

i bet thats made all your quotes feel a bit better lol

I just went with eCar no other company could come close to their quote for me, this should make you laugh....

21
3 yrs NCD
no mods

but I have 6 points for speeding and have held my licence for one year (lost it under the new drivers act)

£853 fully comp, first quote was £815 but I dropped the excess to £250 from £500 which put it up a little. Does make your quote seem a tad unfair heh...

How'd you keep your NCB if you lost your license :S

How'd you keep your NCB if you lost your license :S

Because insurance and driving licence are different things  as soon as I lost my license my cover reverted to covering me as a provisional driver then once I passed again 3 months later it was back to normal. Didn't effect it in any way.

Other insurance companies seem to have difficulty grasping it though :( (how long has the New Drivers Act been in place now? 10 years?)

Now that's an interesting site. My wifes parents who live in a much more desirable area than we do have a higher risk rating.
