My engine check light has been constantly coming on since buying the car in August 02'. I'm constantly going to the dealers who switch it off by using the diagnostics computer. They don't know whats rong with the car.
I recently had a Miltek exhaust fitted @ Awesome GTi and they noticed the light, Tim suggested it is an inherant problem with all Cupra's although you guy's don't seem to have experienced it.
Can anyone offer any advice or help?
Anything would be appreciated as i'm slowly losing faith in my
Ibiza :(

Sorry, i forgot to mention that when VAG COM is plugged in, it comes up saying the mixture is too lean. If this means anything to anyone?

Knackered MAF? Mass Air Flow Sensor.
Dor.
Be careful with the lean indication.. My friends TT fried the motor that way. His problem was the MAF (but the check engine light didn't come on though).

If genuinely running lean, you need to have it sorted PDQ. Exhaust valve overheat and failure might occur.
Lambda reads the exhaust emissions so this might be telling lies or maybe reporting genuine lean mixture. (exhaust fitted so maybe slight disturbance of the cat and the lambda's (one before cat, one after cat)
MAF is Mass Air Flow meter and measures the incoming air just after the airbox.
If genuinely running lean, maye you have an airleak in one of the many pipes.
Good luck.

hi Richie, i had this problem whan i install my supersprint system...
the chack engine didnt turn on but the ecu constantly get into "safe mode" whan i chacket with vag-com i saw two errors 1. "low ctalyzator efficient" 2. "mixture is too lean"...
the first error is OK becouse i dont have cat-converter, but the second one said simply, YOU DONT HAVE ENOUGH FUEL, end thats not good..
so i just put a 4 bar fuel regulator and it's solved the problem.
of course i assume you chiped the car;)
I had this. Have you also had a kinda spluttery feel to the car on the odd accasion?
I took my car back to the dealers 3 times about the engine light and this feel. Eachtime they told me that there was nothing wrong with my car, they plugged it in and it reset it.
Xmas eve my car broke down and it went back to the garage on the back of an AA van...
The shorter version of the story is that it was a Coil gone. This is a problem with these cars and Audis.
Take it back - make them listen - They ALL know this is a problem, but apparently coils are a little in demand and hard to come by

Hi Laura,
Cheers for the help. Just got a question fo ryou since you had the coil changed has the light come back on or has there been any rough running?
Cheers
Richie
Richie,
Nope, fixed the problem there and then. You can check if one of your coils is damaged/broke by unplugging them one at a time, when you unplug the the damaged one there will be no difference to the engine. If it is a coil problem then you need to get it sorted sooner rather than later as it can ruin your CAT.
The dealers know about this problem - we go to Cheshunt Seat and they have a Leon Cupra with nearly all its coils missing due to this prob. Also MAKE them take you seriously
Good Luck

I've printed off your experiences and i'll take them to my dealer tommorow morning (i'm going for some 20VT badges anyway), hopefully they'll take notice.
Cheers again.
Richie.
