What would u expect to be the quickest ?

Reason i ask, is i took me car out today to really stretch its legs, been in the garage all over xmas, and i have only used it a few times this week.

I said i was going out to get the lottery, which i was, but i had planned to take like a 30 mile short cut ;), lol last words as i left the house, won't be long :D .

Been out for a while, dropped thru tamworth, comming back to mine, just as i approach the island golf Gti in front of me, we where both just turning onto a main by pass, he must have seen me and he puts his foot down, so i hit the pedal, and move to outside lane to go past, but hang on  i'm hardly gaining on it, infact i was creeping up on it, we both comming up on a car in front, as the golf still slightly ahead, he swings in front of me, n1  i have to hit the brakes, then he moves back into inside lane, i keep me foot down and pass him just, come to the bendy bits ( bloody north'an relief road spoilt me drag strip) and i back off cause it was dam slippy,he right on my tail, get back onto the straight and keep me foot down, by 12x mph i'm pulling away leaving quite a gap, keep going till just under 14x mph , then slow down as i approach the next island, now thru all this i did have TC on, cause as i said it was dam slippy out there today.

Sorry for the rant, just had to set the story, now i was some what disapointed, what had i just raced a 150 bhp golf, a 180 bhp golf, or a chipped golf, my guess is a 180bhp golf as it looked pretty standard, all i know i was pulling 0.95 bar, my car felt good, but i had strugled from arround 60-100 to get past it.

Would a standard 180bhp or a chipped golf gti be close to a chipped ibiza, cause its really left me wondering as to what it was ????

The fact that he was going for it sounds like a chipped Golf.
He's probably on a V Dub site asking the same question about the beezer. ;)

As i have mentioned before on the whole road race thing, you have to have a seriously more powerfull car to actually pull out any distance or breeze by.

In my experience the only time i have seriously been able to "blow away" another car was when in a friends TVR Griff 500, we came up behind an elise, both accelerated down the slip road, got to about 100, the elsie moved over, I floored it and it was just like the elise had suddenly hit a brick wall. But when you think about it, at peak power he had say 130bhp, the griff makes an easy 350 ish bhp. Aero drag at 90 mph is something around 70kw (say 100bhp) so elise only had a spare 30bhp to accelerate with, griff had something like 250!

Could have been an Anniversary (180 bhp ) golf 'cos as seen on a number of rolling road days the 180 bhp engine in both the Golfs and Leons put out a little more bhp than most kkk03 chipped beezers .
however out on the road in real driving you should have the edge on the 180 bhp car aswell as a chipped (200 bhp) golf ,(PWR)

Be ready to be bored by me talking Jabba again. :D Sorry. BUT its so memorable.

Back at Bruntingthorpe when I drove Jabba's Golf IV it ripped down the straight eating everything else on track at the same time. It had ~370-380bhp apparently on that day. At one point I remember taking the chicane slowly, changed into 2nd to see how well that sort of power could be put to the ground, and I was caught up on the exit by a MK1 Gti Golf "on a mission" :D (Jon Cruttendon my friend). I nailed the throttle and warped down the straight. In that straight (~1 mile) I pulled 1/2 a straights worth of gap. Jon commented to me that he caught this blue Golf coming out of the chicane going slowly (:p - me) and then looked up again to see it had gone! :)

At Combe in Oct, I drove the Jabba Golf IV again and at one point passed a RS4 passing a MK2 Golf Gti. The difference in acceleration down the straight was impressive. I was passing the RS4 at the same rate he was passing the MK2 Golf Gti.

To make any significant difference in acceleration, max_torque is dead right, you need shed loads of power advantage.

The trouble is... once you get used to this performance, you want more and more and more.... then where do you go? (to the bank manager ?:p)

Bill

it was definatly not an Anniversary edition, a m8 of mine has the diesel version, and it looked nothing like that.

It looked like a standard 150 GTi to me, but i was not sure if they made a 180 bhp version before the anniversary, if not i would have to presume it may have been chipped, cause it had a simlar power output to mine.

vibro yep he was in front of me, he managed to pull away from the island first, but i came belting off the island, and pulled in the right hand lane to overtake, and i almost thought i was not going to gain on him, there was that little in it at first, still i won and that all that count's :D

as for the next step up............

<looks at bank account>

takes into account i'm now unemployed atm

No Evo 7 350bhp from warrender yet then

Sounds chipped to me... I've driven a few Golfs and they all seem very heavy and very slow at accelerating. I'm sure a 180bhp Ibiza would beat a 180bhp Golf, in fact the Golf feels so heavy that I'd expect a 156bhp Ibiza to give a 180bhp Golf a good run for its money!

Cheers
Ben

Yep, sounds chipped. My missus has a stock 150 bhp GTi and it's pretty lethargic compared to a standard Ibiza 20VT......to be expected I suppose 'coz they weigh in at over 100kg more than the Ibiza. If the figures from Jabbasport are to be believed, my beezer puts out 195bhp and on the road it annihilates her golf.
