Just thought i would recount my experience of the 7 day driveaway insurance by Seat ( or more to the point Zurich), I took it out to speed up the buying process as they fax over the insurance certificate straight away (dealer miles away from where i live) . First of all it took over thirty minutes waiting on hold to speak to an advisor who made me do a full insurance quote which though not mandatory to take out with them was also time consuming and then having sorted only the 7 day version i wanted the dealer got in touch to say the insurer had insured it as a diesel when its a petrol FR. As tempting as it is i would not recomend them imagine how long they would keep you on hold for a claim if its this long and problematic when they are selling you the policy.......

I think that obviously the reason they are providing the 7 day free insurance is that it gives them the opportunity to quote for and get new business - fair enough in my opinion. But that doesnt excuse the administrative problems you experienced....

Thanks for the heads up, I'm going to have to arrange mine soon. Well not *have to* but ... y'know. Might as well, just in case. Think I'll be phoning from something other than my mobile.

I suppose if it's free you can't expect much.

My only worry is that they start charging me somehow after the 7 days.

you DONt need to take this out though do you?
could you not just have contacted your normal insurers and get them to send through a note ?

I have just used this free service to speed up getting my new car taxed. They answered within 2 mins and at the end of the quote I just said no I do not need itits to expensive, they still fax through the 7 day cover to your dealer so they can use it to tax the car. This is the second time ive used it and both times its gone ok.

Was it you I saw driving along york road in strensall on wed night, about 7:30pm? :) You were driving towards that pub - something to do with bells?

I was going the other way in another black FR :)

I also used the Free 7-day insurance for when I picked up my Altea from the dealer, as my insurers would not send a cover note to the dealer so they could tax the car.

The dealer said that the easiest way would be for me to take out the free 7-day jobbie and they would fax him through the cover note......

So I picked up the phone, and was through to an advisor within about 2-3mins, explained what I wanted, and the guy went through the process very quickly, and then asked when my main insurance was due for renewal, so i said September, to which he then asked if it would be ok for him to contact me at the beginning of Sept to provide me with a full quote.... so I agreed.

All in all, quite a hassle free process in my experience.

I suppose it's like most things, you only ever hear about people bad experiences of services etc, and not the 100's of positive experiences ;)
