Cheers mate!:D

Me mate is looking at a 130PD and we jsut wondered what it was like compared to me leon!

Is it better than the old Ibiza? I suppose it is in one respect! That the head unit can be easily changed!:D

Do you know if its the speakers that are shagsville or the head unit? Or a combo? ie are there gains to be had by changing the head unit?

Thanks

I changed the head unit for a Sony MD one with a sony changer, head unit was only something like £150 about 3 years ago and is of similar sound quality to the grundig that came out. I have got an amp and sub sitting in the house which I will plug in when I have time that might help improve things because I will be able to turn the bass down then (the tweeters sound the better part of speakers). So I guess you would want to spend over £200 to hear a difference.

The standard stuff sucks. However even just a head unit change can sort it. For 2 days after I bought the car I ran with a different head unit and standard speakers. ( clarion DXZ928R (don't pay more than £305 for it )).

After that I can't give an objective opinion as I replaced all the speakers with phoenix gold tantrums (reduced to £169 a pair) amp'd them up dynamatted everywhere I could get to and installed a nice JL12w3 sub which sounds sweet. Unfortunatly the install needs some serious tidying in the boot. so it ain't pretty but it works and sounds good.

Weather permitting I'll be doing some more tomorrow.

I wondered off topic a bit. never mind eh?

That an awesome setup you got there. I've got the same HU and it does sound very good. A little tough to operate but sounds great. Sound proofing is also very important. Did you do both door skins or just the inner?
My install has the liquid based stuff on the outer door skin and dynamat xtreme on the inner door skin.

unfortunately due to a large steel plate (presumably the window assembly) prevents access to the outer door skin. so I have the spray in there. It needs to be re-done as the passenger side door vibrates when its turned up. everywhere else is dynamat extreme. I spent sooo much on that stuff. Still its worth it though.

The system sounds great and with some favourable weather and time I'll get it looking great too.

Ah so the new ibiza has the steel plate the same as the leon:o if you try and remvoe it without removing the glass first apparently it smashes the glass:o

Might have to ask you for a look at your car somewhen then rage seeing as your only up in newbury:D

I haven't heard my car yet, picking it up tonight!!!
I hear you on the price. Sound deadening in my car was over 1000euros
Well worth it though!

Well my head unit is away for repair. The really cool blue LED on the front panel has given up working so whilst its still under warranty I thought I'd get it fixed. They reckon 10 days which is very unacceptable. So I re-installed the standard unit so I have something to listen to. I reconnected the speakers to the cars wiring and am now sub-less however it doesn't sound that bad. I've heard worse and although it can't drive the speakers anywhere near as well as the amp can its acceptable in the short term. This is the first time I've even used the standard unit as the SEAT dealer who sold me the car very kindly let me install my stereo 3 days before I was due to pick up the car.

I don't know how it would sound with the standard speakers but it proves its not quite as much of a piece of junk as I thought it was. The tuner is quite good too.

I didn't mind the setup at first but now it is getting on my nerves.

I found out that it didn't like a brand of CDR I used, the brand with all my music on! I decided to use the originals instead and it was great! Now after some months of use, the speakers rattle horrendously. I will be having to replace them very soon I think before I go mad.

My head unit is back and re-installed in the car. What a relief and a difference it makes. I take back all the good things I said about the standard kit. find a bin and throw it away. The sound proofing I added in the front doors has made a huge difference to the sound. The doors rattle less when you stand outside the car. The sound inside seems louder and clearer in the front than it used to. All round good job.

The metal plate removal pics are on their way I'm just adding comments to them and scaling them down. Expect them before the weekend.
