I am very concerned at the number of mixed owner reviews concerning the Leon in www.carsurvey.org
It really is a shame. I own a Seat Toledo TDiSE and have now done almost 73,000 miles in it. A marvellous car. Never any rattles etc. Always 100% reliable. Twice, when I had my car serviced they lent me diesel Leons. The S and the SE models. They were almost brand new. I liked them very much; but my Toledo of just over 3 years was slightly quieter and more plush.
It is a pity, that it is impossible to get in touch with the new VW boss directly.
Years ago when I was temporally out in South Africa; Ferdinand Piech ( the ex VW boss ) walked in to the VW factory unnanounced and temporally stopped the assembly of the then new Golf because he wasn't satisfied. They lost money; but the Golf was better made out there after that.

I'm pretty suprised about the reviews myself. My ibiza did 227000km in 3yrs and the toledo is already at 95000km with only minor problems. Actually the ibiza had NO problems. The toledo had a minor suspension problem, resolved under warranty.

I am thrilled with my Toledo. It has now done 73,000 miles and has been perfect. With that diesel engine, I should get an enormous milleage eventually. I get the oil changed every 5,000 miles, as quite a few people recommend it. Despite what it says in the handbook. I know there are big arguments both for and against. " Honest John" in the Saturday Telegraph is in favour of changing the oil more often than it recommends in the handbook.

I have my oil changed at the recommended 15000km and am not to worried about it. I drive about 7500km/month so 5000 miles would be one a month for me, which is to much. As long as your using a good oil (I used Motul 6100 fully synthetic in the tdi 110) 15000km should not be a problem.

I hope they won't discontinue the Toledo. It is such a lovely looking car. I listen to piano concertos and cello etc on my 6 CD autochanger. I see, they will replace the Leon with a different shape in time. ( like the Salsa)

Press releases

Barcelona, 10.01.2003

In order to satisfy this demand, SEAT Sport increased its production capacity of the León Cupra R in the last quarter of 2002 from 240 to 340 units per month. Initial manufacturing volume was forecast at 120 units per month, and has been increased to reach the current figure of 340.

This could explain everything...a production line is a monster that has to be fed and even if the factory can physically assemble them the parts suppliers may skimp on quality to meet demand...

hences batches of faulty..relays..or coils..or ECU's or...etc.

I make furniture and I would never buy in the run up to xmas as they are thrown together to meet demand.

Innexperienced untrained staff drafted in working with poor supervision and thats just me

:D

I posted a report and was slated on there as being a SEAT salesman. Not a credible site IMO, seems to be infiltrated by bigots. Ignore!

Yes, I actually got a CO-OP closer <35km, except it's pretty small and mum doesn't want to come live in the Lisbon area (My dad passed away a few years back and she hasn't fully recovered from the loss:( Besides the drive in takes 1hr & 15 minutes compared to the 40-45minutes from my CO-OP:mad:

My review was fair enough but strangely some with only 35? words were deemed more representative:(

I have given a number of reviews to www.carsurvey.org sometimes they don't bother to accept me. I have done my fare share trying to get the truthful message across about Seats. I also tried to add some sense to hateful reviews; but I was refused.
I notice that "Honest John" in his Saturday Telegraph column, quite often recommends Leons and he respects Toledos etc.
