I nervously took the Allerbammer to Seat Cheshunt today to have suspension and MAF probs investigated. This is the first time I have used them.

2 hours later I collected the keys and asked to book the car in for the work to be done.

"It's all been done" replies the guy behind the ramp.

I picked myself up off from the floor, where I had just collapsed with amazement and thanked them for their marvellous service.

I would like to thank them again by way of these pages. Cheers Cheshunt!

I bought my Leon from them, and yes I agree, they are good......but you know why don't you!!!!! They are an Ex-Rover Garage, and my experience with Rover dealers is first class.

Anyway, that reminds me, I have a light dimmer switch waiting for me at cheshunt, better collect it.....

See Brian, I told you they were good!

Cheers for mentioning me in that letter of thanks you wrote - I got some free goodies out of that - cheers mate.

Agree with Neil about them being good as they're ex-Rover. Had excellent service with my 214 as well.

Lots of deserved praise for Pete in here. The guy really is on your side. He bent over backwards the other day to get me a car while the brakes and tracking were being done. Got me the cracking little Arosa TDi again.

Hi Phil -

What goodies did you get and will they go on an Alhambra ? :D :D

How about this for a brilliant response to my following enquiry -

Dear Cheshunt,

Here's a slightly unusual request.

My partner and I own an Alhambra and an Ibiza bought from Seat
Letchworth and Seat Grange Hill respectively. The quality of service from both of these dealers regarding servicing and warranty work has been appalling. Recently we brought our cars to your dealership for repair and we were very impressed with your service and now you are our dealer of choice.

However, on the front and back of our cars we are promoting and
advertising the aforementioned shoddy dealers by way of our number plates which have their company name and phone no's under the reg. no.

The thought of us doing them this free service really bugs us!

Would you consider supplying free or "at cost" replacement sets of plates with your company name and phone number etc so as we could promote a Seat dealer in who we now trust!

If not, it's going to be an indelible marker-pen job which will look a bit naff!

Best regards,

Brian and Mary

Seat Cheshunt's reply -

Dear Brian & Mary

Many thanks for your e.mail. We would be delighted to supply and fit both vehicles with replacement number plates at no cost to you.

At present we are in the process of changing our number plate suppliers so there will be a slight delay.

Please reconfirm by e.mail your registration numbers and the best telephone number to contact you on.

Regards

Frazer Kerby

I was in to see Peter early in last week with my bankers draft for the Cupra that I am picking up tommorow and I told him about the thread on here and he was pretty happy about the comments about the dealership.

When I read about the poor service on this forum (except Amethyst) it makes the service at Cheshunt even better, maybe it has something to do with them being customer friendly and then money motivated secondly?

I look forward to the car tommorow and hopefully the same standard of service there after!

   To Cheshunt Seat!

Sorry Brian, not Alhambra compatible :D

Pete either has, or is in the process of getting, membership of the SEAT Drivers Club. It shows he appreciates the cars as much as the rest of us.

From all the positive comments on here, it's not surprising to hear that Cheshunt have the second highest sales figures of all SEAT dealers in the UK. And it's not exactly a large or in-your-face showroom either. Should be an example to many of the other dealers on how customer service leads to more money for them, as well as content customers.

Just booked mine in at Cheshunt for a Service on 31st Dec. Thought, hope I get a Arosa TDi to try out.....nope, but I'm not disapointed, still getting a Leon 1.6S, better than the norm Fiestas and Micras from other manufactures:D

Have to say once again that SEAT Cheshunt is the b*ll*x of a dealer :)

When the Leon went in for a service a month ago, they valeted it as well. They noticed something I'd been trying to get rid of for ages; a nasty film on the paintwork. It was like a layer of grime trapped underneath a layer of wax - it just wouldn't wash off. Anyway, they said pop it in some time and they'll see what they can do.

Today, it went in and about 30 minutes ago I went to collect it. Shiny as new. They'd polished it out a treat. Went to see Dick to pay, and he said there was nothing to pay. They polished it all up for gratis. What a blinding piece of customer service. Cheshunt really have to be one of the best dealers in the country, if not Europe.

You wont have any problems there mate trust me ;)

My car has gone back because of a fault with the clutch.....the car was picked up from home and I was left a Cupra to drive around in as the policy there is that they try and get you the same courtesy car to drive in as the one that you drive!

Mine always comes back immaculate and always valeted...what can I say!

Good luck and let us know what happens!

Cya.

PipSqueak111

I wouldn't say they always try and give you the same car you're used to driving?!?!?! On the 3 occasions I've had a courtesy car from them, I've had the Arosa TDi!!! Not exactly a Leon Cupra now, is it!!!

Can't complain though. The fact they've always had a courtesy car when I've needed one puts them head and shoulders above many dealers. And the Arosa TDi is actually quite good fun - the skinny tyres did give me a bit of a scare the first time I drove it though!

When mine's in for the 12 month service in March, I'll see if I can persuade them to give me an Ibiza Cupra courtesy car. I've only driven one once at Rockingham, and I'd like a longer drive in one. The new Ibiza TDi's may convert me from the Leon to the Ibiza  Loads of torque :D

I'd better tell you that Cheshunt Motor Co read this forum, so I'd be a little less conspicuous with quoting speeds done in their courtesy cars if you don't want to end up with a 1 litre Arosa next time ;)

They want to get honest feedback on their service though, so don't feel you have to hold back in case they read something they don't like. So long as your comment is fair, I know that they'll accept it in the manner appropriate. After all, everyone on here so far has received good service from Cheshunt, and everyone agrees that they're nice people.

I treat their cars ever so carefully :D
(Please give me the Ibiza Cupra next time Pete :D )

Just had my cupra in to fix a creak in the dash yesterday, a minor but very irritating fault. They were typically professional and the dash is much quieter now. As for courtesy cars I got a Leon 1.6S, I thought great! that'll be OK. All I can say it is amazing how different a Cupra is from a 1.6S. Not just the obvious power difference but the general driving experience gearbox was spongy, strange "no feel" steering. I fancy an Arosa next time, they look fun.

Oh one bit of sad news, Peter (salesman at Cheshunt) is leaving, which is a shame. I just hope all goes well for him, as he has provided an excellent service.

12-01-2002, 03:00
Yes alas Pete is going back to being a chippy...:)

Its a shame really that they will be losing him as he has been very helpful and has done really well down there.

He leaves at the end of the month so I am sure that we will all wish him well :) :) :)

  Pete!

But Cheshunt Lives on ;)

I've had a driveshaft go on my Bammer over the weekend (OK, not good for SEAT's reputation having it fail at only 64k miles).

I phoned SEAT Cheshunt on Sunday and they promptly booked it in for Monday (today) to be fixed under warranty.

They had said that a courtesy car was not available (understandably) at such short notice, but they were willing to give me a lift back to my home.

However, this afternoon, SEAT Cheshunt took the "For Sale" signs off of an ickle ickle Arosa and gave me that to buzz about in.

Top marks from me to SEAT Cheshunt.

PS - This post is obviously written whilst being aware of a fellow member and someone whom I regard as a friend, CupraSi, who has an ongoing complaint with SEAT Cheshunt, but I post only as I see fit in my own personal dealings.

Brian27

Mosser -

When I bought my car in 1999 the warranty covered 3 years or UNLIMITED mileage or 100k for taxis etc.

Again, SEAT shifted the goalposts when they reduced the retail prices but altered spec and warranties etc.

Brian,

My dad's old Galaxy V6 had a drive shaft go, or should I say, a CV joint to be precise, and that was at under 50K miles. In fact alot of the problems he had was with Ford not being able to get parts from VW. Other problems in its 5yr/90k miles life included:

2 x New Auto gearboxes
1 x Drivers seat base
1 x Fuel tank
1 x CV joint
rough running after service (VW supplied wrong spark plugs to Ford)
Think he had a new steering rack too.....

All covered by warranty, but not what you expect from a VAG product, at least its handling was excelent even after 90K miles, and tyre wear for a big powerful MPV was excelent, fronts 23K miles, rears still original when sold at 90K.
I also heard of Sharan problems in early years where the drivers door opened on the motorway......

Straying back on to the topic of the thread, Cheshunt put a grin on my face again last night. Frazer (good bloke) has sorted me out the Ibiza Cupra as courtesy car for my service at the end of the month :D The little Arosa TDi was fun and all, but I got a bit fed up with the jibes from my workmates about the bright yellow, foot-high "64mpg" lettering down the sides.

Who needs Pete, eh?! From recent events with CupraSi's car, I think they're better off without him.

Cheshunt are still firmly in my good books.
