Hello helpful kind Seat experty people,

My dad is worried because he read an article in the paper about a timing belt on a VW Polo that snapped at 43,000 miles, resulting in a totally wrecked engine and a fifteen hundred quid bill. Any offers as to how often the timing belt should be changed on my N reg Seat Ibiza? I've got 50K on the clock now.

Thanks a million,

Sparkster

If it helps mate. I just changed the belt on mine at 52k. Think they can last longer but it was fairly cheap so to be honest its a case of better safe than sorry as far as im concerned. Good nickname by the way :D

On the 8 valves SEAT recommends changing the timing belt every 60,000 Km or 3 years whichever comes first.
On the 20 V T - SEAT recommends checking the timing belt every 90,000 Km or 3 years, and a copulsory change at 180,000 Km (!) or 6 years. Well, that is a lot and I'd recommend to look at the belt every yearly service just in case, and change if it's worn. It is not that very much expensive.
