I never understand why one sees so few Toledos on British roads. The old saying "non premium brand saloon" as printed in a very well known magazine. Another magazine "Car". They say that the Toledo V5 is the best in it's class! I see a few here in Devon; but mostly Leons, as the British love their hatchbacks.
People forget, that the boot of the Toledo is larger than practically any other boot. I carry large musical instruments in the boot. They normally don't fit in to any other boot. I listen to my classical CDs trying to avoid the speed cameras and the unmarked police cars!!
Certainly my Toledo TDiSE is a fantastic car.

I'll lend you my Tuning Box and you'll find it extra fantastic!!!
Did seriously look at a Toledo myself (110 tdi) but plumped for another Ibiza as I wanted to possibly use it on Track Days.
SEAT should have done an image gimmick in the early days of releasing it as although magazines have always rated it the public still tend to shy away from saloons in this country.
Perhaps it was released too near to the Bora with which VW wanted badly to build an identity so they held SEAT back a bit?

I definitely think that more should have been done with mature advertising and mentioning the German parts. I definitely think the brand new Leons were lovely; but they have saved some money. My Toledo was assembled beside the Bora in Belgium at the end of 1999. It did cost over 17,000 pounds sterling at that time. It is much cheaper now; but understandably a great many extras have been removed from the cheaper ones. I find the 100 bhp diesel engine is extremely economical if I don't drive madly! Thanks for taking the trouble to reply before.

Well, I'm not a saloon fan, and here's an exmple of why not.

A few years ago, just after we moved to Devon, my wife and I had a Carlton GSi 3000 24V and a Citroen AX nasty base model 1,100 thing (she had it before I met her and I got her to change it as soon as I could, with no small help from her friend who had to be cut free of her identical car after an accident in central London at <30mph). nyhow, we bought a chest of drawers in Exeter and went to collect it from the warehouse, only to find that it would not fit into the Carlton no matter how we tried. We went home, got the AX, came back and it went straight in.
The only saloon I've had since was the Impreza and I wished I'd bought the wagon version of that pretty much as soon as I got the saloon home.

Well hear in Portugal you don't see many Toledo either! Actually you'll be hard pressed to find Boras as well. People really aren't interested in saloons in this price range hear. I see tons of Passat's, BMW 3-series, Audi A4, etc...

It's got the best quality/price in its class. I only wish they did a bit better job soundproofing the car. The tdi 150 is quite noisy.

Even though I adore my Toledo. It has an incredible boot but a tiny opening. I realise it is far handier packing up an estate car. Recently I couldn't fit a chair through the boot opening. It wouldn't fit through the hole inside either when I put the seats down. Remember it was only an ordinary chair. I carry a large cello in a bulky hard cases in the boot together with a lot of other things. It won't fit in most other saloons. So the Toledo suits my and my family needs.

Talking of Portugal, that information is very interesting. When I was in Spain I saw an incredible number of Pasats.

a mate of mine (In Devon:)) has just bought a toledo (1.8 20V)...

Looks lovely although I have yet to have a spin in it...

I like the Toledo - if their was a 4WD turbo version it would be my ideal car...

I just love the looks of my Toledo: very dark "indigo" blue. Looks superb when clean!! The TDiSE is so incredibly economical and it is lovely cruising on the motorway. Mine was superbly assembled in Belgium beside the Bora at the end of 1999.:On all the new cars Seat has lent me, I notice that the indicator makes a lot more noise. My wife thought that the new Leon TDi SE was more noisy outside than my Toledo TDiSE September 1999. I have lovely soft "sports" seats and alloys etc etc (you could fill pages with the extras). But it did cost over 17,000 pounds sterling in September 1999.)
