View Full Version : What I did today
Car needs an MOT so I started to fix up a few things (hole in sill, busted number plate lamp etc)
got bored & helped my car go faster.
shame I can't test it

If you are not keeping the std seats you want to take an angle grinder to the original seat rails and the centre post - 2.2 kg per side!, and grind off all the heavy rear seat belt anchorages! (unless you want them for harnesses, but most people put them round the roll cage)
hehe - some buckets coming next month :D
best bit is I have a whole weekend to paint the sills & remove more stuff
that's what I spent the other half of the day doing.
now replaced with fibreglass :p
Good effort ! - rear hatch inside trim can come off also and do you really need a rear wiper + motor ?
Have been continuing with the car's weight loss program myself - last night stripped out the sound deadening under the drivers seat (the tar-like stuff) and just under that seat alone was 0.84kg worth - under passenger side seat tonight and then most of it is removed - have saved it all in a bag (how sad) and will weigh for whole car when finished - could be 10kg perhaps - don't sound much but its all additive. I liked the idea of removal of the original front seat fixing and rear seatbelt mountings - they will be next also.
Any ideas how I could seal up the hole in the roof if I remove my sunroof ? I was thinking a sheet of ali but instead of rivetting to the roof, perhaps stick it with epoxy or suchlike ?
Cheers

You do like your glues Rob :p
;)
Its going to be even quicker with all this weight loss.
My weight loss plan amounts to 2.1Kg so far over the last week, and is portable between the cars I will drive. ;)
Great work guys :)

Just a thought...
Being that Christmas isn't that far behind us, have you put on any weight yourselves? Saving all this weight is good, but when you clamber in, you're adding extra weight to the car anyhow. :munch:
In saying that, there is a drag bike rider called the Mad Count, and he's no Derek Smalls. But then again he needs that weight to keep the front wheel down! Never mind wheelie bars. :balloon:
So how about it; join your cars in a dual weight loss program. If you shed some kilos yourself, it's less kilos going down the road when you're driving! :D

Yes I like glues - often as good as welding and sometimes better (no stresses induced) and anyone can use with no equipment at home. And ok, some of them smell nice - :D - but dont do this at home children as its dangerous and illegal !
Are you saying your on a diet Bill or have you just had a really good p*o ? Perhaps this is what happens when you scare yourself sh*tless in the Jabba Ibiza. I'm going to weigh myself before and after parting now, just to see - for the benefit of science you understand.
By the way, the average european man produces 1.69L of wee per day. The specific gravity is 1.015 kg/L. Thus, you could remove 1.71 kg from your car by having a good wee before the sprint. I once saw a figure that says 10kg off the car is worth 1hp, thus, the wee is worth 0.171 HP - probably not worth it.
Ave it

Ave it!
Does look the same as the rear part of my cage, mine's in the garage getting fitted on monday:D
Got a bedroom full of shit that came out of the car, most of that will be remaining out although I've got to have something in as it's still my everyday car!
Rob are you going to calculate an average figure for weight saving per poo, you could do this based over a week or a month. Mind you somedays there do seem to be a lot more chocolate hostages:confused:
the thing is this
is the increase in bhp/tonne/poo relative to the poo you loose when you have a high bhp/tonne a la 340bhp Ibiza?
so the more bhp/tonne your car starts with - the better it gets as you sh*t yourself
the question is - would you be better laughing & there for p1ss yourself laughing (out of the car) to gain a better bhp/tonne

0.6kg - not bad. From discussion around the lab this is about average.

You would need a trap door fitted to your seat.
I'll have to ask Sparco about that option - LOL

And you thought that hole in the bottom of some fixed seats was an anti-submarine hole???...nope.
Rob. I fink if you ally up your sunroof the regs say that it must be rivited welded etc. Not 100% sure though.

On the sunroof topic - do yourself a favour, just go and buy a roof skin without a sunroof hole (circa £160 when i got mine), it saves sooooooo much hassle, and looks nice, unlike some bodged bit of rivetted alli, right at eye height as you look at the car - yuk!
(or rivet the panel onto the underside of the roof, and uses filler to properly skim it in, but the weight of filler kinda defeats the point!)
My '97 sxe was 842 kg when it was stripped out (on 17" alloys that put some weight back onto it)(didn't go too badly with 75 bhp)(actually it could'nt pull your sock off but it was better then before!)
