View Full Version : Getting Upsolutely Chipped
I'm finally getting my car chipped after hunting around for a few months :D. It was a toss up between Engine chipping and buying Neal's old alloy wheels (sorry Neal - if they are still there in a few months I'll get them off you then).
I'm one of the people that Simon and John from Upsolute are chipping when they come up to Scotland on 31st January. Anyone else on this forum getting there car done at the same time?
I was tempted to go to Superchips as they have a garage in Glasgow but it would have cost over £500 so I didn't bother.
Well I'll let you all know what I think of the chip when it's done. I done a 30-70 test on Sunday so I'll be using that as a reality check when I get the work done. I got a 30-70 time of 10 secs which seems pretty fast for my humble 90HP diesel (had me and my girlfreind in the car at the time - might have been on a slight down hill). Won't be racing you Cupra owners anytime soon but still can't wait to see what the chip can do for my cars performance.
Cheers,
Jamie.
Hey Jamie,
Will see you there mate, Im going down from Aberdeen on the Thursday and meeting up with the guys on Friday.
Do you know how many other folk are going ? Im in contact with Simon via email but I just forgot to ask on the email I just sent em.
Should be fun -
Will c u there
Chris
Hi Chris,
Not sure how many people are going. I reckon only 3 of us are getting done on the Friday, so that would make you me and the guy who owns the house we are going to. What time are you booked in at? I should get there about 1:30pm.
Hope to see you there but if I miss you then we can get in touch on this post and compare notes on how the chip performs. It'll be great for you, having the trip back to Aberdeen to give your car a good test. I'll have my fingers crossed that the forecast is wrong and there isn't too much snow so you can enjoy the journey.
Cheers,
Jamie.

I'm looking forward to Friday chaps so we can put some faces to these user names !!
As Chris said, Jon and myself will only be up for the Friday now as everyone that's coming along wanted the job done on Friday - so plenty of miles for us !!
We're actually chipping 6 cars on the day ranging from Tdi 90's up to 1.8T's. I'm sure you'll all be leaving with a smile on your faces in your 'new' cars :D
See you Friday.
Simon.

I'm the guy whose house is where it's all happening! Weather permitting, the action will start at 11 (me first, I hope!). Should be an interesting day - looks like SEAT is well represented. See you tomorrow! If you need directions etc., email me, and I'll send 'em....
I am very happy with the results. My humble 90HP TDi now feels damn fast. It's maybe not as smooth and controlled as it used to be but I'll just need to get used to the extra power and learn to use a little less throttle (especially in 2nd gear when pulling away at the lights - a couple of large wheel spinning moments already) when I want easy progress.
I don't know if I should be worried or not but the improvement feels so good I am worried about clutch slippage but so far it's only been unwanted wheelspin a few times.
Overall I am very chuffed and if things stay as they are it's been well worth it.
I'll keep posting my feelings - only had one good drive in the car due to the bloddy snow and a massive hangover on Sunday.
How are the rest of you getting along with your cars?
Cheers,
Jamie.
PS - Again big thanks to Pablo for the use of his house. I'll send the carpet cleaner in the post.

Man! What a difference! It just rips up the tarmac from a standstill, but for me the best bit is the urge from 50ish in 3rd. Everything in the mirror gets a lot smaller very quickly. Just a pity the snow has put a (temporary, I hope) stop to the fun. :D
The power delivery seems really smooth - no lumps, surges or flat spots. It was like that before, and I was concerned that the chip would cause some unevenness - no probs, though. NE one know a cheap place for good (front) tyres?
Simon & Jon were here till after half six, and when they left, they were going to another one in Lanark (45 mins away). Figure on an hour and a half to do the job, and they wouldn't have finished till around 9 o'clock with a 4-6 hour drive to go... They certainly earnt their corn... (If you read this Simon / Jon, when did you get home?) :eyepop: So a big thanx to them..
BTW, Thanks for your concern Jambo! The carpet came up without a mark with judicious use of interior cleaner (Valay). :D
Next time I'll supply booties for all you clod hoppers! Or maybe we do it in the summer instead!

Hi Jamie
The wheels went to another good home over the weekend. I'm sure you'll find some more and by the sounds of it you need the extra traction after chipping !!;) ;)

Hello chaps,
A big thanks again Paul for the use of your house and I'm very glad to hear your carpet cleaned up fine.
Jon and me didn't get home too late considering the mileage - Jon was home for about 23:20 and I walked in the house at 00:15, just as it was becoming very white on the roads !!
Just go easy with the extra power in this crappy weather;)
Thanks again.
Simon.

Simon,
Glad to hear you made it home safe and sound, and not (too) late. Thanks for all your efforts on the day.
Paul
How much is it to have the Upsolute chip? I am guessing it may be different for the type of car? I have a 180bhp leon.
