View Full Version : Broken door lock

Not good news.

Driver's door lock doesn't seem to work any more. The key inserts fine and the barrel rotates left and right, but nothing seems to catch.

Fortunately, I can open the door on the passenger side, plus the door handle on the driver's side operates fine (although this now is my only means of unlocking the car as the remote central locking doesn't work either!).

Any clues as to what could be broken? I'd be gutted if it was the barrel - any experiences of catches being snapped or broken for example.

I'll find some time at the weekend to remove the handle (it's not a big job) and look for any loose, obvious stuff - but I was just wondering if anybody knew of any possible problems (common faults for example).

One possible clue is that the lock froze up two weeks back and I fuddled with it with the key for five minutes before remembering that I had some anti-freeze in the office. Quick blast in the barrel and I was fine, but surely it wouldn't be that fragile, would it?

Tried to get the remote working before but the trick I've seen on the forum here doesn't work.

Oh - it's P reg Cordoba SX (1.6 pre air con model).

Cheers!

Maybe the hydraulic pump that operates the c-locking. In the Ibiza it's behind the trim at the rear on the driver's side. Should be same for Cordoba if my scanning of Haynes is ok. The line may have come out on the door, just remove doorcard and re-attach.

I think the problem with the central locking is with the remote. As I say, if I use the passenger side lock, the whole car unlocks - therefore I think it's safe to assume that the central locking itself is fine.

To be honest, the remote has never worked since I got the car.

Rather amusingly, this morning, I forgot about the driver's lock not work and managed to pull out the barrel. Looks as if it hooks onto something at the end. I'll dig out the Haynes manual tonight to see how it assembles, but it looks very much like my old Golf.

Now - which is the best smilie for a concerned frown?

Do you have my car??????? This is so uncanny!

Mine has exactly the same problem! i thought it was the ice too. only difference is that mine has yet to fail. Sometimes its hard to turn and you can feel the insides of the lock grinding etc.

If you sort it out, let me know please becuase mines bound to fail too!

Dude,

On a side note, the barrel is extremely worn and the metal is quite brittle when the pins stick out. I think I might have a bit of bother in the near future with it sticking.

Perhaps this is the problem you're having?
