This is entirely my own fault for not checking more thoroughly, but Quinn don't cover any kind of windscreen work (repairs or replacements) like other insurers. Don't take it for granted!

According to the guy I spoke to at RAC Auto Windscreens, they're the only company they've ever dealt with who don't do the "free repair"/"cheap replacement without affecting NCD" deal as normal.

How daft do I feel for making assumptions? :|

Quinn Direct are a bunch of cheapo no frils easyjet style insurers. A lot of young drivers in ireland and northern ireland used them a few years ago but more and more seem to be getting fed up with having big excesses and basic cover.

Aye, I've PMed Neil from Greenlight just to clarify a couple of bits, then I think I'll be cutting my losses (been with Quinn 3 months now) and cancelling. Greenlight were slightly cheaper when I got a quote anyway, but I didn't get it through in time to take it up, and knowing that I had about 3 repairs and 1 new screen on my old car in 3 years, staying with Quinn and not having free repair/cheap replacement could cost me quite a lot!

In their defense though, your comment about big excesses doesn't apply to me. My excess with Quinn is £135, whereas most insurers were between 2 and 3 times that. Just a shame that the cover is very minimal, as you say.

Been with Quinn for 6 months - won't be renewing. WHen I got the Beeza I rang up to change insurance details to it - got confirmation letter two weeks later with the 307 info still on - rang them up to demand why i'd been driving unisured - she then asked me for al the stuff on the ibiza - to which i said - if I was insured you'd already have it - she ate her words! I'd been driving a brand new car for two weeks uninsured! :(.

Cheapest cover at the time but don't think I'll go for it again!

Now cancelled Quinn, my premium with Greenlight is the same price for a year, but includes windscreen cover (without affecting my NCD!) and I'm insured for 30,000 miles instead of 15,000. Unfortunately means 3.5 months without building up any more NCD, but then again Quinn has already cost me 200 quid in new glass, so it's worth switching IMO as that's only likely to happen again with the milage I'll be doing.

The excess is pretty staggering with Greenlight though, £550 for damage, fire and theft. Was only £135 with Quinn. Not that I'm planning on crashing, mind!

You think that's bad I just bought my Cupra and tried to change my car details to which my insurance company said 'my policy scheme doesnt exist so i cant change vehicles'*

10 months down the drain

the thing that makes it worse is my previous car was a 200sx which my insurance company previous to the last one wouldnt insure me on as I was under 25............. 11 months down the drain.

Needed a car back on the road though so had no choice :(

*I have also heard that this may be a lie, according to the rumour the insurance company in question quotes people through the underwriters but 'accidently' mistypes the age to make the driver appear older. Once it's all gone through they alter the details as it is too late. The 'special policy scheme' doesn't exist any more as it never existed!
This has been confirmed by one of the underwriters....

*cough* bloody MCE Insurance *cough*

quinn direct were great when i started driving because no one else would look at a 17 year old with a 15 year old golf but now that ive got no claims etc I wont go near them!! learnt my lesson on that - they won't do temporary transfers!!! but they do offer windscreen cover in ireland now?

just for own sanity, can you confirm the access is £135 total with quinn, and not:
standard excess + £135
or £135 + other access that applies to younger drivers
or £135 + voluntary access

or that the £135 is the 'special' excess applying to you in addition to standard excess... etc etc

you may well be correct, but be careful, ive had paperwork before that states something like "excess £250" then later in another section/small print it said additional excess applies dependant on age.. then listed additional excesses for age bracket.

£135 seems low to me even for an older persons policy.

Can't confirm anything, I think I've probably shredded all the paperwork for it once I'd sent the certificate back for a refund. I'm pretty sure it was just £135 in total for me though, as it really surprised me how low it was.

im with quinn. They are brilliant for me, just passed and driving a 1.6 in my mums name. no one else would quote under 3k even though my mum has like a million years no claims. Quinn quoted 1.6k. will be moving to someone else once i can afford it though :)
