View Full Version : DAB front speaker upgrade
I want to spend some money on some new speakers.
What speakers should I get to replace the factory speakers in the front of my DAB?
I do NOT want to purchase an additional amplifier!
Budget is not unlimited, but am prepared to spend to get good results.
Any thoughts?

What output is your head-unit? I changed my standard one for an aftermarket sony, and it sounded a lot better, they seem to have good potential. Just a suggestion
The head unit is a Blaupunkt Nashville DAB35.
To quote the manual:
4 x 18 watts at 14.4v and 1% distortion factor at 4 ohms.
4 x 26 watts sine in accordance with DIN 45324 at 14.4v at 4 ohms.
4 x 50 watt max power.

Probably better than the OEM one then.
It does depend on budget - a decent set of component speakers don't have to cost over £100.
I would look for something with a wide frequency response and not necessarily the wattage.

Rainbow, Diamond and JL Audio are at the top end - £100 smackers could get you entry level Focals or DLS, or decent Infinitys.
If I had to name my budget I guess I'm thinking of up to £150.
The link you posted is for kit costing £6500 :lol:
I've seen those brands mentioned in other threads. Which would you recommend?
Let's face it, If I were to get a demo it would be with a different head unit and speaker enclosure than I have in my Ibiza so I need recommendations!

well one of the lowest grade JL audio do sell at around £230, which i have and they sound amazing, but running any speakers off the hu wont bring out there full putencial, so a set of infinity kappa's comps (£65 on ebay) would sound better then standard but still not as good as the jl's sound. but then my old set of jbl's sounded better than standard speakers.... and there going for around £50 on ebay... just as a rough price comparision... but you could always go for somethink in between them and JL

Andy - Have you made any decision on this yet? Iwould be interested to know what you get, and what you think of them as I'm inexactly the same situation with my DAB. I want to replace the fronts and instal some rears of the same variety whilst I'm at it.

I have done lots of soundproofing though. All but the front doors.
Still looking for some more guidance on this.

Will these fit / work and give good bang for the buck?

Yes, I've already got those - from the same source too! It's just the speakers I've not got around to yet. However, I'm just about to place an order for those Infinitys. Hopefully the Blaupunkt DAB will have enough power...

they wont be the best in the world but nor would any others running just from a hu... but as you have choosen a quite a decent set it should give you the best it can deliver under the circumstances....

if you could give me a day or so i could try and get you some well known in the higher range than infinity's for around your budget unless you signed up on icecavern.com then have a chat to merlin77 he gets some deals like no others... i have purchased some stuff from him and i would recomend him to any1....
