View Full Version : springs and shocks
Any advice on the best spring and shock combo for an Ibiza Cupra 20VT. I don't want adjustables or more than 40mm drop. Originally looked at just springs but Mike at Jabba commented that the car would feel like a pogo stick and advised that should really do both springs and shocks. Anyone running with eibach springs and bilstein shocks.......what d'ya reckon ? What else is worth considering ?
H&R
theyre seemingly good
can be 'low' but not silly low

Do H&R use Bilstein shocks and their own spring or is it basically a bilstein/eibach set-up.....and what do they cost ??
Have a look at some of these recent threads:http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?threadid=12926

There are some more around as well, just do a quick search.

I recently fitted Bilstein Sports dampers to my wifes Lupo, which was running Eibach springs.
Its excellent now.
Controlled and firm ride.
Nice little toy now... just in desperate need of some power.

Seems that the H&R Cup kit results in a big drop, approx 60mm, while the Koni SSK is less than H&R. I do a lot of mileage for work, probably won't be doin track days and want a good balance between "tightened" handling and comfort (I don't want it "slammed").........with this in mind, what's the best package ??
With those needs I'd get KONI Sport dampers and H&R springs - more costly than a simple kit though.

What's the biggest difference between this and the KONI SSK kit ??
You don't get H&R Springs with the SSK but Vogtland springs. Don't get me wrong the SSK kit should give you a very comfy ride, ask Glyn with his 8v, but if you want it even better then circa £110 ish gets you better springs and you can sell the spare ones.
The SSK kit uses the dampers I suggested you get.

Thanks for the advice........almost there ! What's the drop with KONI's and H&R springs ?
Don't know the precise drop on this cos you have a different car to me, but for mine, the H&R springs are listed in various places as between -30 & -40mm. Coupled with a shortened damper (assuming) I'd guess at anything from -35mm to -50mm.
Having said that Vogtland springs are meant to be -40mm, and Glyn's 8v on his SSK kit is circa -35/-40mm drop.
Kealan runs KONI adjustables with H&R springs and is at circa -35mm, on a Ibiza4 1.0.
TBH I can't see the drop being more than -50mm all round, prob more like -40mm.

I run stock 20vt dampers with H&R springs (Badger5 sourced *plug, plug*) and the drop is not excessive (possibly less than with the full kit).
The handling is surprisingly good and the ride quite compliant for an "uprated" set up so if you don't want to spend a fortune it's an okay compromise (I chose H&R springs as they are reckoned to have the best ride quality, and they are quite good in that respect).
Having said that if the dampers already have a good few miles on them, now is the time to change them, but if they only have a handful you could always uprate them at a later date.
