Just watch out for too much oil, which will contaminate the MAF.

Some kits use more than others.

I'm not sure if some kits use more oil than others as edc mentions, but for God sakes be very careful with the amount of oil you do put on the filter you do get. Over oiling the filter equals dead MAF.

I use Green Filter products, Panel, Hurricane (as was) and now Dynatwist.... All have proven MAF friendly.
Minimal oiling on these cotton gauze filters.

I did 10K miles on my Hurricane without any trace of oil carry through.

Just be wary of foam filters as these tend to have more oil/goop on them.

Hello,

What about an K&N replacement filter? Is this (also) bad for your MAF ?

I ran one in the ibiza from new. The MAF needed replacing when I sold the car, but it had 227000km on the ODO. The trick is not to over oil the filter.

I think K&N apply more oil on their filters (inc panel ones) than Green do.

Nice sound no doubt BUT.......

The filter alone can breath from the engine bay, without some sort of other metal work etc... eg box it in

A good cold air feed will be essential for any induction kit or air filter.

I do have a concern over these stainless steel gauze fiters personally (even tho I currently have one on my IHI conversion).
If you hold the filter up to the light you can see right through it... So how does it catch fine dust?

answers on a postcard..

Bill,
Isn't this is because the K&N has a thicker cotton filter?

Might be, but its too much if it gets drawn into the induction tract.

Agree!

I've always been very careful with the oiling. I guess I was quite lucky on the ibiza, as I had no MAF problems until 1.5 months before tradein. Haven't changed the toledo filter yet. Will probably not change at all, unless I can find something that's MAF friendly. Have looked at the RamAir panel filter, but think it's a NO No.
